@xerz Finland probably has a bunch of different newsletters and journals, but my favorite one is the Official Journal - https://www.virallinenlehti.fi/ it's just the biweekly journal where they publish all of the official proceedings and announcements to the general public

@xerz it has published such bangers as "the following companies are insolvent - if you are a creditor of them contact us immediately" and "the residential building at address X has banned smoking on its balconies", not to mention "the candidates in the upcoming election are as follows"

@xerz can't make it as simple as just a macro saying "make this type garbage collected", cause you'd also need to run a garbage collector in your process if you want it to get collected (and implementing a GC is a whole project in itself)Unless reference counting is acceptable, then yeah it's called Rc<T>

@textfiles Would it be easy or hard to go through and automatically pick out the SWF files from all wayback machine captures?

@nah how is a sandbox supposed to work if every sandboxed app is automatically given a "get out of jail free" card

@foone if a website provides extra API to do things in a different way from how the UI itself does it, that seems a bit sus to me really, as if they're trying to separate API users and other users (see telegram bot API)

@foone The entire episode is one of the funniest they've ever had. It was all perfect WTYP hijinks all the way from start to finish.

@foone pi pico uses a fully software implementation of USB (not hardware), so if the software doesn't work then it literally isn't USB and won't enumerate

@foone they should do the same with human languages. Actually in Finnish, the names of many languages are identical to the names of countries, except countries are capitalized and languages aren't

@foone in many cases it literally is illegal (in significant parts of the world)for example if they make it at all easier to accept unnecessary data collection than it is to reject it

@foone well as long as they don't get digitized before they're streamed! or any VHS capture uploaded on youtube would be legal (which would be nice honestly)

@foone my initial thought is that in finland, we get a (reasonably secure) government provided SSO that companies can use, which legally functions as a digital form of showing ID, but my second thought is that idk if the government of the united states of america can be trusted with that kind of power

@foone jwz and wayland agree in that it's a bad idea to let any random application "lock" the screen by exclusively locking all input to themselves, but jwz thinks the solution is that there is only one programmer in the world who's good enough to lock your screen, while wayland thinks it's the display server's job to lock your screen rather than random user applications
