@grammargirl I suggest logging into their site and pushing it as far into the future as possible. If I remember correctly, it can be a full year. Also, holidays tend to be much slower. There is a smaller chance of being requested for service around Christmas and New Year.

@stux I don’t recall who said this (in the context of some former US president) but these kinds of blatant lies are not even about misinformation. They are about asserting power: I am so powerful that reality is what I say it is, and there is nothing you can do about it.

@grammargirl I believe it was Alexander Pope who said 'A little knowledge is a dangerous thing'. I believe younger generations have easy access to that little knowledge… which may make them as uninformed or more than when we had no knowledge at all.

@stux same here. I still think that he might not have always been a dangerous buffoon, he was just allowed to become one by a yes people bubble of his own creation. He reminds me a bit of Linus Pauling, the only winner of two unshared Nobel Prizes, who later in life became obsessed with Vitamin C megadoses as a cure all (against all evidence) and fully sank his reputation…

@grammargirl for what it’s worth, Wikipedia has it as “valley girl”. I would agree, since the term has become more general, and it doesn’t specifically refer to somebody from the San Fernando Valley.https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valley_girl

@grammargirl Unfortunately when I tell people that I switched to Mastodon, the reply I get most often is “what is that?”.

@grammargirl A great reminder to not just have one, but two backups. I lost most of my early work samples when my hard drive failed, and then the backup drive also failed as I plugged it to get the files. It turns out there was a problem with the power outlet.

@Ricardus Give John Wick a chance. It is the only franchise that feels like they are just having fun and getting Hollywood to foot the bill.

Despite being marketed against mosquitoes, bug zappers mostly kill moths and other beneficial pollinators. Mosquitoes are not attracted to light. That is why the box can only show a drawing of a mosquito, but it does not mention the word even once.
