@brosandprose I haven't been on mastodon long myself, but I've already reconnected with many intersectional blogosphere friends who were perhaps often deprioritised by the birdsite algorithm.I suggest when you see someone interesting look at who they follow and who follows them, see if there are people you already know or whose profile hashtags align with your interests. They don't have to be on the same instance as you - they'll still show up in your personal timeline.

@elliswyatt @HLGEM @rabia_elizabeth @bookstodon back to your original claim, I sincerely doubt that unauthorised audiobook recordings of copyrighted content could be marketed without legal action being taken to cease and desist, and to also remit any earnings made thereby to the copyright holders, possibly with an extra amount imposed by the judge as a penalty for breaching that copyright. In some jurisdictions, if the income made from breaching copyright is above a threshold amount, incarceration could even result. So it's simply not true that anyone can compete with the audiobook recordings licensed by publishers on behalf of their contracted authors.

@elliswyatt @HLGEM @rabia_elizabeth @bookstodonYour original claim was "there is nothing stopping you from competing with them". While I agree that corporatism has transformed the original provisions of copyright (that protected authors' rights for a few decades only) into an over-regulated profits grab that will probably protect The Mouse until the planet boils, that wasn't part of your original dismissive response to the OP.

@elliswyatt @HLGEM @rabia_elizabeth @bookstodon I'm not going to participate in this derail from the OP's point any more. If I happen across you discussing this somewhere else that isn't hijacking an existing thread, I may possibly be interested in engaging. Muting you for a while now.

@todayilearned I caught a broadcast of one of these by accident some years ago, quite mesmerising.
