@nil @allison @jeffIf it's too opinionated for any of the major desktop environments to adopt it, then for practical purposes it has solved exactly zero problems.

@nil @allison @jeffA solution that excludes many kinds of hardware and requires an obscure DE is not, for market purposes, a practical solution. Certainly not one good enough for Wayland not to suck, vaccines not to cause autism, GPS not to work via cell phone towers, and Bush not to have done 9/11.

I tried that magic shave powder stuff. It made my skin all red and itchy. Either I mixed it wrong or I officially have Sensitive Skin. Drat.

@allison @fluttergirly See I think there are some studios that do use pixels as a get-out-of-art-free card, resulting in at best very mediocre pixel art. The problem seems to be that some people see all pixel art as Aesthetic without discriminating between the good stuff and the not-so-good-stuff, and that studios that don't want to put effort into the art just slap something together and pretend that it looks good because it's pixels. This is the equivalent of drawing nothing but stick figures and calling it a "style": technically, you could say that it is, but that's no defense for mediocrity. Now, does mediocre pixel art automatically make for a bad game? No, in the same way that stick figures don't make XKCD a bad comic. But XKCD has excellent humor. Many games feature mediocre pixel art in conjunction with a mediocre everything else, in which case you have a game that comes off as extra lame because it seems like the developers thought they could use pixel art to slip mediocre art past the player. Looking at you, Undertale.

I realized today that if I wanted to I could grow a truly magnificent beard. Why did this blessing have to be wasted on me?

Can we make “terves” the official plural of “terf”?

“Set”, “group”, “class”, “category”… sooner or later mathematics is going to exhaust all of the English synonyms for “zero or more things considered collectively”.

Startd watching The Emperor's Text-to-Speech Device. It's pretty funny. I can tell there are a lot of lore references going over my head, but it's quite educational.

On Danbooru there's a really wild bug in the HTML scrubber for the system of image annotations. All linebreaks are escaped into actual <br/&gr; tags... even if they're in a place where a <br/&gr; tag is syntactically invalid. It seems like Pleroma has the same linebreak-escaping behavior for its html input.I wonder, does it have the same bug?

That's interesting. I don't see any <br/> tags at all. From this behavior, it looks like <span> elements are displayed as block and linebreaks aren't escaped at all!I wonder what's up with that?

Ah.CSS white-space: prewrap property. That's a much more elegant way of doing this.

I love that meme where you negate a word by adding -n't onto the end of it. It's the postpositive not: “I known't” is literally a contraction of “I know not.”After this I hope we can agree that emphatic double negatives are actually perfectly fine. We need not no do-support, nor no negative polarity.

@morg idiomatics is the trickiest part of language learning because it is the one thing you absolutely cannot learn out of a book. If we distinguish language learning from language acquisition, it's literally unlearnable.
