Welcome all our new joiners! Some tips for the new folks:• There's no algorithm here to push new people to follow to you.• Use the "Local" timeline, it's all the other people on the same server as you. Interact with people who seem interesting, follow or unfollow at will.• The "Federated" timeline is kind of a trainwreck, it contains all of the posts of all of the users who are on servers that this server knows about. Personally I don't bother looking at it.• If you stick around, consider subscribing to the @aussocialadmin Patreon to help with server costs: https://www.patreon.com/shleeau/• Hat-tip to @geordie for pointing out this tool that is meant to help with finding people over here who are also on Twitter: https://twitodon.com (background of how it works here: https://diddledani.com/twitodon/)

@stux I think the folks from the multiple Black-run instances that've been driven off the fedi from persistent harassment and racism would disagree heartily with the sunshines and roses attitude here. Don't get me wrong, Twitter is awful, but Mastodon has serious racism and anti-blackness problems.

@Are0h I'm increasingly of the feeling that that won't be possible unless the absolutely ridiculous blocking behaviour of ActivityPub (I think it's AP at fault?) is changed, where you can block an instance but the shitheads at the other end can still see and interact with your toots but you just don't know about it. 😕

@Are0h Yeah agreed. I don't know shit about Ruby in order to have a look at it, but also I'm working under the assumption that it's already been raised with website boy and he's decided he won't implement it. 🙄

@Are0h Couldn't agree more. It's such a low fucking bar too. Just... listen to what people are telling you, fuck's sake! And then fix it!

@Are0h I guess one advantage ActivityPub has is that it's a standard and the software is all open source so in theory there's nothing stopping us from fixing it....which granted goes back to my "I'm not remotely a good enough coder to actually DO that" bit. 😞

We very rarely have sweetened condensed milk in the house, but when we do, I make a café bombón. 👌🏻

Man, today has been the day of deliciousness. Lunch was leftover Indian, followed up with a café bombón, and dinner was home-made burgers with hash browns.

I decided that I should really bite the bullet and actually get started on the large pieces of the #KillTeam terrain from the Octarius box that I bought in the middle of 2021. Figured it'd be a good opportunity to actually try doing some airbrushing in a fashion other than a zenithal highlight base coat, and I'm pretty pleased with how it's coming out! I'm less worried about obviously sticking within the lines because a) it's terrain and I don't care nearly as much, and b) in this case it's Ork terrain which is completely ramshackle anyway. It's weirdly shiny because I'm using Army Painter's "Strong Tone" shade paint, which is sort of like Citadel's washes but oil-based and far thicker, and for some reason they thought a glossy finish would be the go. Once it's dry (which takes a good 24-48 hours 😮) I'm going to give it a drybrushing with some gunmetal silver and then will hit it with a matte varnish to get rid of the shine, and I reckon it's going to look pretty tops.

I've had my painting table inside because it's been mostly too hot in the back room to paint, but I need to do my airbrushing out there because I can't do it in the house, which in turn means I'm back to using the extremely dim LED side lamp when I'm airbrushing at night.Solution: LED light from Bunnings held up with a phone holder that is far stronger than it has any right to be!

I wish I'd gotten onto this airbrushing thing earlier. It's SO much faster to paint terrain, I'm actually going to finish all of the #KillTeam stuff from Octarius! These aren't finished yet, but there's two more identical pieces to go, then it'll just need a splash of colour, a coat of quickshade and then some drybrushing, and it'll be 100% done. And then I might even try to make a dent in the Sector Mechanicus terrain from my old Kill Team starter box from 2019 that I've assembled and undercoated and then done absolutely nothing else with. 😮

And speaking of #Starfield, dear LORD can you spend a lot of time in the character creator! As always I made a Black woman, you can't tell from this shot but I went with the heavy/muscular side of things for the body type, but as soon as I came across that haircut I was like "Oh, I've just made Naomi Nagata." 😅

This post by @eevee from 2020* about CSS and web development back in the 90s and how far we've come since is an absolute delight. https://eev.ee/blog/2020/02/01/old-css-new-css/*Which I'm only just getting around to reading now thanks to moving from Instapaper into Reeder's Read Later and actually organising my shit properly.

Holy shit, the Rijksmuseum used a 100MP Hasselblad camera to take almost eight and a half THOUSAND photos of the whole of Rembrandt's The Night Watch, for a total image size of 717 GIGAPIXELS. 😳It's on their website as a zoomable image and you can zoom in so far you can see the individual cracks in the paint: https://www.rijksmuseum.nl/en/stories/operation-night-watch/story/ultra-high-resolution-photo

Man, this got more attention than I was expecting! I think traditionally I'm meant to say something about my Soundcloud at this point? But since I don't have one, I'll say instead to go peruse the #MutualAid hashtag and give some money to Black folks, in particular Black women and Black trans people.

Ahaha excellent, there's an article on Ars Technica with the headline "The top fell off Australia’s first orbital-class rocket, delaying its launch" and the _very first_ comment is a link to the Clarke and Dawe "Front fell off" skit (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3m5qxZm_JqM) and all the Aussies are coming out of the woodwork making references to it.
