Funfact we found out in the museum: the Russians took the Lorenz machines and used them themselves during the Cold War. … BTW: did anyone check for Lorenz encryption in Russian communications now? ;)

Another „funfact“: What helped most with deciphering the Enigma codes and hence breaking encryption for nearly all of the German communication were people who were too lazy or thought „oh, it‘s just the weather report“ and did use the same password (or 3-wheel-position) a second time or even over longer periods of time - like the name of their girlfriend or something. In the 1940s. Just like using the same password for everything today … #ITSec #Datenschutz #ITSecurity

My absolute favourite at the National Museum of Computing is the Hartwell Dekatron. The design is from 1947, to be a reliable machine to perform routine and repetitive calculations normally done by operators with desk machines. It was completed in 1950 and after about 5 years of dutiful service was given to a College to teach computing with it. They renamed it 'WITCH' (the Wolverhampton Instrument for Teaching Computation from Harwell). It‘s the oldest still running computer in the world. 💜

What you can’t hear in the picture is the lovely sound it‘s making, clickedy-clacking merrily away while calculating some table. 🎶💜 There are still people able to write programs for it - on paper strips! - and the handbook is also still there so it will be able to operate it for a long time. And yes, I have a recording of the sound. ;) #AudioF00

@davidgewirtz Please keep in mind that you're adding all titles to Amazon's data collection. Whatever you upload to the #Amazon cloud AND also what you put on your Kindle is being indexed & uploaded to the server automatically. Just had that with an unpublished #manuscript that someone wanted to read on their Amazon device and it ended up on their server, although it was uploaded manually via cable to the device. #copyright #urheberrecht #authorrights #autorenrechte #intellectualproperty #ip

TIL: Whatever #ebooks or documents you put on a #Kindle, they're being indexed & uploaded automatically to the #Amazon server if the device has an internet connection. Just found out with an unpublished #manuscript that someone wanted to read on their Kindle and it ended up on the Amazon server, although it was put onto the Kindle manually via cable. Whatever you do with Amazon devices, you're adding everything to Amazon's data collection. #Enshittification #AuthorRights #IntellectualProperty

Da ist ein israelisches Unternehmen dahinter, das mobile attribution analytics macht, sprich es geht ihnen um Zuordnung der Informationen zu konkreten Personen. @futurebird Well, we had a TV. And then @datacop de-soldered the TV-tuner from the device. So it's a big screen without its original TV-functionality that we use to watch series or movies together. Does that count as TV?
