@lain it's true, when you're a casual gamer you spend a relatively large amount of your time catching up on updates. Super frustrating. I know since I started gaming a little more, recently, the updates don't seem so onerous

@yaaps I am with you on this. Case in point is what @Shufei and I call 'smolnet', gopher and gemini hypertext protocols! Super light, and much more efficient than other heavy protocols! This would be an excellent way to distribute information in really light server hardware (:

Everything is always political.Navigating this world requires a savvy grasp of the Good. It is not wise to dismiss this fact. Suffering is temporary in the greatest of long term runs, but is certainly given and permanent in this political system. As someone wise said before me, 'if you tremble at the thought of injustice, you are my comrade'. It is reckless to put concern over our suffering down to hand-waving and over-excitement. One of the greatest virtues many of us share here on the fediverse is that we all have a keen sense of the evils of our oligarchs and our pernicious capitalist social institutions. That is why it saddens me when I see people at the forefront of our movement here (and the fediverse is indeed a movement) making light of the concern of our loud voices, saying 'everything is going to be okay'. How can this be known? Furthermore, how can this be known by _you_?Haven't you experienced evil, and how banality is its carrier? Even if we have no practical real-world presence globally, we communists have at least our trembling hatred of suffering and injustice.

This is subject to change, but I am going to de-prioritise my coding projects for the next 15 or so weeks of semester. I realise I have a lot of loose ends when it comes to personal projects; but I am feeling like I need a bit of a change in personal computing habits.I am going to be focusing on uni, and I will be working on projects that can bear fruitful results a lot faster than big, big software activities.I will be blogging on the smolnet (gemini), making videos for both the smolnet and peertube, and writing more at my HTTP blog. I will also be making some video game let's plays for smolnet and peertube.I will also be focusing on being a little more active on the fediverse. I am already very active, but I'd like to be deliberately contributing more meaningful multimedia for the fedi. Then, after the next few months, I will take stock of what energy I have to continue finishing my LISP Tamagotchi (:

You know, I usually never go on the federated timeline at all --- I know there be monsters, but I usually never have to! I follow so many people as it is, so I always have a really active home timeline (:

There has been a lot of talk online about how 'bloated' EMACS can be. I do not deny that EMACS uses a lot of memory, or other computer resources, but I do think the observation that EMACS is a little more resource hungry than other development environments is misplaced.I think it stems from a misunderstanding about what the purpose of EMACS is, and, perhaps, how it works. EMACS is virtually a whole new operating environment. Virtually all of the most important C code that forms the program is for setting up the LISP interpreter in it, so that it can be as extensible as it is.Given I use it for email, IRC, smolnet (gemini), SBCL, and USENET, I think it makes _good_ use of system resources, even if it doesn't make the smallest use of resources. The fact I can run EMACS productively and reasonably quickly on a Nintendo Wii means that it is reasonably efficient.Like I said in my manifesto for a LISP operating system, speed and efficiency should only apply to qualitative and cultural aspects of a computer system. It is the ultimate use and phenomenal satisfaction that matters most about EMACS, not how 'lean' or 'light' or 'thin' some system is.I hope this goes some way toward a defence of EMACS, and its design philosophy (:

Bleh I am so utterly exhausted after trekking around Perth City again hahahCaught the bus into the city, caught the bus from the city to the Leederville camera shop. Was there for half an hour waiting for my old battery to be tested. After finishing up, I walked back from the shop to the train station, then walked around the city for an hour waiting for a comrade, who ended up being busy. Then caught the bus back to Morley, went to Spud Shed to get an iced coffee, then walked back to Morley bus station, and then caught the bus 2 stops to my home bus stop, then did the 15 minute trek back uphill to my house.Yesterday, I caught the bus to Bayswater, to a friend's house. Then I walked from Bayswater to Inglewood. Got coffee there with the friend, and then walked from Inglewood to ECU. Then, we walked back to Beaufort St, and caught the bus to the book shop in Mount Lawley. Then I caught the bus home, picked up my debit card, which I had forgotten. Then, I caught a bus and a train to Subiaco to go to group therapy with my psychiatrist. I then caught a bus to Leederville, to get some advice about my camera, which I had forgotten to bring with me. I bought a charger cable which both the clerk and I assumed would charge my camera, but, like I found out today, the battery I had from years ago had expired. Then, I caught 2 buses home, and then was driven to my grandmother's for family dinner in Noranda.A LOT of travelling!
