@futurebird Well, wait a minute.Pi's decimal expansion is infinitely long.Somewhere in Pi is source code and a database for a simulator that simulates a universe where there's an Earth where everyone is a potato.

A billionaire can never be held accountable. Therefore a billionaire must never make a management decision.

@futurebird This describes many white rural Americans, not just Elon.America isn't a melting pot. It's a rice mill. Cultural identity is stripped away, and isolated people latch on to whatever "ism" they can to find a sense of identity, and often racism and nationalism are the easiest ones to find. That's part of why I think hacker culture has been so popular and positive in America - though hacker culture is not without its problems. It is, at least, an identity that is not directly tied to genocide and nationalism.

@futurebird We have been doing this for years. Every year, the farm over-produces some crop. They learned early on that they made too much zucchini, and scaled back. Last year was way too much eggplant, and I like eggplant. This year was way too many spicy peppers, and WAY too many tomatoes. I have a quart of really nice Potbelly-style pickled peppers in the fridge, and a gallon of home made tomato sauce there too. And my freezer full of tomatoes and peppers.

Peer reviewed science has strong evidence that autism is caused by atypical variations in neural pruning and mirror neurons that begin during early development, caused by the presence of genetic mutations on the X chromosome and other genes. Because of the relationship between autism and genetic variation, autism often presents alongside other disorders, such as ADHD, depression, dysphoria, learning disabilities, and the pathological use of too many commas. These presentations underscore much of the language around autism as a spectrum, although these "co-morbidities" do not articulate the spectrum as a whole.Autism is a hereditary neurological condition, and many individuals with autism were raised by parents who also have autism and were not raised with an awareness of how autism affects one's perception of events, creating a trauma loop that further complicates development.Thank you for your attention to this matter. This is the most autistic thing I've ever typed.

@futurebird Republicans have out-spent the Democrats since like Reagan. Republicans have also gaslit America since like Eisenhower. This isn't absolute, but Reagan outspent Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton, and after like 4.5 years, Trump has outspent everyone.

@foone My takeaway from all of this is that I should write more Rust, and also, I should write less Rust.

@stux AI is already improving itself. If you look under the hood of bleeding edge agentic tooling, its rather terrifying.

Oh boy!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gv4sDL9LjwwSome of you may know that I have code on airplanes. In safety critical avionics. It's still there, so I'm told. And if you're a follower, you might know I'm a dummy. This is why the team across the hall from me, though, just got chewed out for breaking prod during a customer demo, and why my team (I'm now in infosec) gets quick, accepting sighs in reviews because we never hit product management deadlines.Rust, btw. (panic, unwrap, and proc macros were a mistake)

@futurebird You suck on the stick until the lemon juice comes up, sort of making peppermint stick lemonade. The extrusion process of some sticks means that they have long empty paths inside the interior like tiny straws. Its the sort of novelty you would expect from a city that celebrates eating whole crabs on sandwiches.

@futurebird @rep_movsd @GossiTheDog All of the major modern chat providers are using agentic frameworks. So your one prompt to an LLM does not generate one model invocation. More commonly, it generates dozens or hundreds of invocations, including retrieval steps where the AI system searches for data relevant to your query (Retrieval-Augmented Generation - RAG is already a thing for image generation where the LLM is provided with or can find a set of reference images). You can prove to yourself that the systems are capable of doing this by using an AI to edit an image instead of generating one from scratch - and that has been working well for more than a year. But there are plenty of whitepapers written about RAG + image generation. There is no reliable way to reason about what is in an AI system's training data vs what is used as part of the context for generation anymore.
