@jwildeboer Agree, and in addition to the Twitter Algorithm rewarding for extremes it also seems to reward for the extremely banal such as the pointless 2-choice question "Do you prefer eggs scrambled or fried?" or "Would you rather have a duck sitting on your foot or a cat sitting on your lap?" or wheels vs doors, etc etc etc ad nauseum. Those questions can get a lot of responses on Twitter, mainly cos ppl feel it's something they can reply to. But I feel (happily) that those sorts of pointless questions wouldn't go down so well over here cos ppl are looking to have a bit more thought and genuine interactions with ppl (not just feeding The Algorithm).

Soon if not already, "waterfront" will be synonymous with "bad location" when it comes to property. Due to rising sea levels, consequently higher insurance etc. What I am shocked at is how many ppl still live in those areas despite what we know about climate change.

@fsf an interesting read! I would have loved to find out where DKIM and SPF checks slot into your diagram

@linmob am I correct that there are few to no Linux phones that will work easily with US carriers? I'm still hoping that one day I will be able to switch to a PinePhone or something similar

@shadowfacts interesting! Can you please clarify what you mean by webmention support? In terms of your website I mean, not of the Rust part of it

@shadowfacts wow! So for receiving, is it that 1. ppl can comment on your blog post using their Activity pub handle, or 2. ppl can comment on your blog post from *within* Activity Pub (e.g. inside Mastodon) and that comment gets added to your blog post in the comments section? Either way it sounds pretty cool!

@shadowfacts I love it!!! I read your blog post and it was AMAZING, loved the technical details even tho it was a bit beyond my very basic level of ability. I did the search and reply thing to leave a comment via Activity Pub, hopefully it works, not sure if I did it right but hopefully I did. Loved seeing a working example of Activity Pub commenting! Thx so much! Very excited about this, especially as it's a reality not just a concept (until now I thought it was just a concept)

@meeper absolutely 100% agree. Even when trying to fairly and accurately represent themselves online, ppl just come across differently IRL vs online.

Debating whether I should get back into #lisp ... I love it, but it doesn't have as many built-in methods for string handling as #ruby , and on principle I find it frustrating in terms of readability to (in practice) have to use a lisp editor to keep track of the parentheses

I have been enjoying the board game Galaxy Truckers. It balances planning and luck. And best of all, it's designed to be finished fairly quickly, it does not go on for a long time. There are 3 levels of complexity depending on how short or long you want the game to be #boardgames

@ariadne that is scary, its got to be illegal for ppl to make threats of bodily harm to specific ppl. That sounds like the crime of terroristic threatening (at least in the US). Also, if anything you'd think ppl would be GRATEFUL to those developing new operating systems. If the person doesn't like it they can either a) use a different distro or b) make their own. Threats of bodily harm are not the way to go.

@purism @todd it sounds great, and I love the idea of a Linux phone. But the article did not specify whether this one works with any of the mainstream us carriers, and if so which ones

@GIMP super excited about this! BTW, who has control over when the new version makes its way into the Linux Synaptic package manager? Is it you or the folks at Debian? I always feel that software on Synaptic lags quite far behind it's most recent release
