Seeing calls for moderators to unconditionally trust reports from marginalized people and block first, investigate later. This is a known attack vector used by right-wing trolls: pretend to be a marginalized person and report the target. And lots of marginalized people actively support their own oppression. As a woman, I can name any number of women who actively support misogyny.

You can't outsource your judgment to the nearest marginalized person (or person pretending to be one). There's no way around it: moderators have to develop expertise in identifying and understanding oppression - at least enough to know which expert to trust.

Sometimes it will take time to consult, and I support temporary blocks while doing the research, but ONLY for truly edge cases - which means the moderator needs to know when they are difficult. My belief is that ultimately we need automated ways to share moderation work with people with similar principles - and ways to articulate those principles.

Once I ordered iced hot chocolate at a coffee shop. The barista said, flatly, "You mean chocolate milk."I think they refused to serve me. The semiotics of drinks are complex.

Oh. The real reason for the crackdown on work-from-home is that forcing workers to live in commuting distance of an office cuts down on labor mobility and lowers wages.I have no idea why it took me so long to understand this.
