@sajith @tauli @checkervest I also started being on the internet at a time when so-called-real names were frowned upon, and met a number of people in person.Even in the cases where I know the name that the state knows them under, I usually call them with the nickname they choose themselves, and in some cases I tend to be slightely perplexed when I hear people calling them with their other name.

@cwebber my SO has one and I helped with the assembling. Any questions to one happy not-exactly-owner-but-I-have-some-claims-on-it? :D

@cwebber It took us a coupole of hours to assemble, the instructions were pretty clear and it went smoothly (but we both have experience disassembling and reassembling computery stuff, including SBCs).We have one of the first batch, so at the end we had issues with the touchpad buttons (they were mitigated by changing the keypad firmware, and then fixed by receiving a the spare part). This should no longer be an issue.

@cwebber Using the provided ubuntu-based image everything works as expected, except for hdmi-out (that afaik doesn't work at all), including watching videos; of course using no-script is recommended to browse decently. My SO is trying to run debian with a mainline kernel, and that still has some glitches; accelerated video is still not available (but there is a kickstarted project to add that support.)

@brennen there is a reason (actually, multiple reasons) why I have a policy of "if it isn't into debian it doesn't exist" (exceptions can be made, but use methods where I'm constantly reminded that they are an exception) and "stuff that I need on my computer gets installed by an ansible playbook".Of course, I don't do development in javascript... :(

@infosechandbook there is a difference between using some protocol/software developed by google, and using their services. As long as the source is out there, has been vetted by other people, is not calling home and you're not blindely accepting binaries from google itself (which may or may not correspond to the published sources) I don't see a privacy problem with the former, while the latter *will* give google your data, to be abused as they like.

From today's wikipedia anniversaries: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MS_Herald_of_Free_Enterprise a ferry called Herald of Free Enterprise capsized because both the ship and the procedures were designed to maximize profit at the expense of safety.how sadly appropriateā¦

@Gargron I'd think that #friendica is more suitable as a g+ replacement, as it's not a microblogging platform but more a general social one.Now that it almost has ActivityPub support, that's just as good as joining mastodon, right?
