Andromeda, the early 2000s sci-fi show, is... well, I can't recommend it... but it's way better than I thought? It kind of hangs together. Part of my enjoyment so far (8 eps in) is that the world building is surprisingly solid, it's just probably not a world worth all the effort.In the realm of dodgy 2000s sci-fi/fantasy I rank it below, say, Enterprise but above Beastmaster.

Jean Marsh has died. A lot of people might know her from Willow, Return to Oz or Doctor Who but her turn as Rose in the 1970s series Upstairs Downstairs (which she co-created) deserves a special mention. She's wonderful in it.#television #upstairsdownstairs #doctorwho

"Body Quake" finished. Which means 9 out of 13 levels for Cell Sword are at first draft. Another three are close behind and only the fourth is really incomplete. Not quite light-at-the-end-of-the-tunnel but not far off.#CellSword #gaming #linux_gaming

I like the name "The Milky Way" because it speaks to our ancestors and prehistory but if I'm being honest it's just not very sci-fi sounding like Andromeda or Magellan or 3C 273

Also the word "galaxy" is derived from the ancient Greek word for milk. It went via Latin (edit: galaxias - and possibly shares a stem cognate with lactate) so saying Milky Way Galaxy is redundant I guess

I have a little computer that would be perfect for self hosting a website. I can get a permanent IP address for it. In the past I would have used aws or similar to register a domain name and direct traffic to it and just serve up http from a linux stack.I'm interested in what's "best practice" for self hosting today if people have suggestions?I'm thinking I should put it behind a service like cloudflare and also make it https but I want to remain non-corporate as possible.#selfhost #http

In Australia, SEGA is pronounced SEE-GAH but in some other countries I'm led to believe it's pronounced SAY-GAR.After intensive research I have found that SEGA is a shortened version of "SErvice GAmes of Japan", which sold slot machines to US military bases after WW2.So SEGA is most fairly pronounced SER-GAY. There you go, now nobody is happy#sega #retrogaming
