@gordio @isagalaev no, you can change the name of the second function to anything you want. In fact, because this is C++ the name gets mangled, so the actual compiled name is not "unreachable"You can use the compiler explorer to see, clang/LLVM just treats the infinite loop as undefined behavior, so it just deletes it. Thus the body of "main" is empty, and control just continues on to the following code in "unreachable".https://godbolt.org/z/nPzWzbvb7

@dalias @nova I think this is where it came to a head: https://dotart.blog/dotart-blog/silencing-hachydermThere's some discussion on the Nivenly Discord where some people bring up this earlier kind of awkward post from @nova which she later deleted and apologized for: https://weirder.earth/@kukkurovaca/109979609572132114

@dalias @nova Yeah, along with some others in a #fediblock discussion, but that dot art post pretty much sums it up. The kinds of instance admins who think they need to collectively punish thousands of people because of some small policy point they disagree with or awkward post from an admin.

Alt text is great.Linking to sources is great.Putting links to sources in alt text so you need to drop into the inspector to copy out the URL is not great.

@b0rk_reruns @b0rk Does anyone have any good way of remembering what each of these syntaxes do? Each time I use them, I have to look it up in the docs to make sure I'm using the right thing. How do you remember which of ${var#pattern} or ${var%pattern} removes a prefix or a suffix?I have such a hard time remembering I look it up each time. Anyone have some tricks for remembering?

@tomjennings @b0rk_reruns @b0rk I guess "man bash" followed by "/suffix" will find it for you; I have usually skipped the Bash man page as I seem to recall it just being a stub that pointed to info docs that were too hard to search, but maybe I'm misremembering or maybe they've finally decided to give up the GNU crusade against man pages.

@malwaretech Yeah. And that demonstrates how amazingly energy dense gasoline is; even with all of that inefficiency, gas cars (and likewise ICE airplanes, and the like) can easily have range that far exceed electric with motors that run into the high 90's percent efficiency. They don't call oil black gold for nothing. Even when used incredibly inefficiently, it still pack in more energy per unit volume or mass than anything else practical to use.

@emaksovalec @malwaretech I take long highway trips in my Ioniq 5 right now with no issue. It can charge at a peak of about 240 kW, but averaging closer to 180 kW in the 0-80% range. Electrify America has a country wide network of 150-350 kW fast chargers sufficient to support road trips. That means 15-20 minute stops every 200 miles or so. A 15 minute stop every 3 hours or so isn't bad; you don't have to stay with the car while charging like with gas, so you can take a bathroom break.

@emaksovalec @malwaretech It's a simple matter of building out more infrastructure. In Norway, where there's a real focus on incentivizing EVs and EV infrastructure, 80% of new cars sold are EVs, and at this point 20% of all cars on the road are EVs.It really is possible, as long as you invest in it. At this rate, it's only a few more years until they have more EVs on the road than ICE cars.

@bagder @thejpster Presumably the concern here would be a MITM attack with a protocol downgrade.

@foone what about high end synths? Digital synths are all computers these days, but they are also a keyboard that provides MIDI for use on another synth or a computer. Many of them are used hooked up to a DAW these days. For example, not even one of the highest end, the Korg Wavestate is powered by a Raspberry Pi Compute Module: https://www.raspberrypi.com/success-stories/korg-synthesizers/So:✅ Intended as input devices for bigger computers✅ Has over 26 buttons✅ Has enough computing power to be considered a computer
