Not a good day... I made a brick out of my Pixel 5 while re-flashing Graphene OS. Has unfortunately become necessary after I - once again - played around too much and somehow ruined the system. And that on the weekend... now I have to work with a Samsung S21FE until Monday (good device, but Google-infested Android...) - now I have at least a good reason to get a new Pixel and then - very carefully - flash Graphene OS on it.#grapheneos #pixel5 #flash #bigdata #privacy #calyxos #foss #android

I'm so pissed about what went over at Red Hat (and yes: this shit is on IBM's crap!) last week! Close the free access to the source code of RHEL to kill distributions like Alma, Rocky or Oracle to eliminate "competition". Money, money, money - and fuck you, Open Source Community! All SO typical IBM! I've been a Red Hat user and fanboy since the late 1990s - but that's over now. In the next few weeks I'll be re-planning my current RHEL & Fedora setup, probably with Debian#RedHat #opensource #ibm

@harald Changing mail addresses and accesses is the same, regardless of whether I am with a provider or run my own server - but I'll never have my own mail server again. I don't have the patience, the time, the nerves and the right equipment and infrastructure.

After the transformation away from US services and products, it's time to go one step further.As I have already announced, I will soon be replacing my Pixel 9 with Graphene OS with a Fairphone 6 with /e/OS from Murena. Although I personally really appreciate Graphene OS and am an avid user, I'm not sure what the future will bring under the fascist Trump. As I said, he can force US companies to hand over data of European users or turn off their services for Europe with the stroke of a pen. Or whatever other stupid things this orange psychopath can think of. Pixel devices from Google are another point.However, I'm still considering a Framework Laptop 12 for my future laptop because of its sustainability and reparability.Framework? AN US COMPANY??? Yes, unfortunately there is no European equivalent in this field, but unlike software and internet solutions, I am relatively independent after the purchase. The worst case would be if I could no longer buy current components. But then the Framework would be just like any other computer, which is generally almost impossible to repair or upgrade. But I want to keep that option open.And I hope - like the rest of the world - that the fascist and criminal spook in the USA will soon be over and the situation there will return to some semblance of normality. @gisgeek I think these “offers” from MS vary from region to region. Which shouldn't be the case. And I wouldn't rule out a certain intention to boycott, because MS wants to get rid of this version as quickly as possible. And even though most people will of course stick with Windows 11 or switch to it, MS has done a lot to increase Linux's market share. Albeit involuntarily.

Oh oh, I haven't done anything here for a really long time—but health comes first. And to make matters worse, I lost a very, very good friend more than a week ago, who was taken by the damn MRSA germ... Rest in peace, my friend, you will never be forgotten! 😢 But during my own convalescence, I had enough time to return to my roots with Linux and switch my systems back to the tried and tested, beloved, and familiar. And I'm now leaving the time of experiments and trials behind me for good. In the end, you always find your way back to what has worked best for you for a long time, right?So my main system is running Fedora Linux again, my second system is running Debian, and my ThinkPad P51 is running FreeBSD as always.My ThinkPad T490s is running a completely slimmed-down version of Windows 10 IoT LTSC because of the built-in LTE modem, which cannot be made to work under any version of Linux. And I need this feature when I'm on the go, plus I'm paying for the SIM card with a contract. Apart from that, the battery life is significantly better with the slimmed-down Windows 10 than with Linux. You can think what you want about Apple, its business model, and its crazy pricing policy and rip-offs—I'm definitely not a fan either—but one thing fascinates me: since November, I've had an iPad Mini 7 Cellular so I can read the news, watch the occasional YouTube video, or quickly and conveniently reply to an email while on the go or in bed at night.Very compact, very practical, it fits perfectly in my small shoulder bag or in my smartphone holder next to my bed.But what impresses me most is the incredible battery life! With my moderate use, the battery actually lasts a whole week. Remarkable. As are the performance, the pen support (great for editing and signing documents!) and the rather unique form factor.
