@clackeOf course, Gustavsberg is now Villeroy & Boch. Although that did end up meaning I could get hold of functioning toilets in the UK.Although I'm sure they'll be banned soon, to bring back the sunlit uplands of siphonic separation.

@clacke1) Yes.2) "pronounce a word strictly based on its spelling". Umm, dude, you're talking about English. There is zero connection between spelling and pronunciation.

@enigmatico @chjara Virtual memory is not a part of C. It is an implementation detail of the system software.

@enigmatico @chjara Memory, as opposed to virtual memory, is described by the C standard.C can be used just fine on machines without an MMU.

@enigmatico Huh? Of course it is a part of it.C's view of what memory is (which is not concerned with whether some other level of software transparently transforms its address values underneath it) is overlaid on top of whatever the underlying layers provide. Regardless of cpu/bus architecture. This is what made it useful as a portable language in the first place. That does not make the underlying layers part of C.

@clackeI mean, fundamentally the whole idea is "how do we stop having to pay script writers?".

@clackeI'm still going to mumble something about how that probably meant they weren't paid royalties. But I haven't seen the movie. I don't think it would be good for my blood pressure...

@clackeI have interacted with plenty of atheists who have stated with certainty that they know there is no god, and have used this as an argument for why they are higher evolved than people who do believe.Having no interest in being mistaken for one of those wankers, I have considered myself agnostic for the majority of my life.

@clacke It does provide a way to distinguish stuttering or repeating because someone thinks the listener missed one digit.

@clacke "Okay, 2, 5".And if you say "5 5, two fives" you've lost the efficiency argument.Body language is ambiguous and not available over the phone, or if someone is paying attention to what they're putting into a form (digital or analog) while listening, and I think people are unlikely to switch modes.I can see why you'd stick with it if it's what you learned, and it definitely improves flow when you're surrounded by people who did.
