@TheTweetOfGod When people realize this, one possibility that crosses the mind is that everything they faced in the past was all a lie, that nothing matters and it’s all meaningless. @clive As someone who works at a college, that mindset always peeved me off: “If a course of study doesn’t land a student into a profitable entry-level job, it shouldn’t be taught.” In other words, close up programs in Art, Music, Philosophy, etc. since there’s no jobs in those areas with appreciable job openings past major cities on the seaboard.Myself, I think people who can (of all things) make and do things with their hands are more worthwhile to know than an MBA graduate in most cases.

@stux Classic problem of an invention looking for a purpose.Bitcoin promised so much and turned out to be a wildly unstable equivalent of a reloadable gift card. The Mid-2010s it was at its best. Now the majority of Bitcoin accepting businesses have changed their minds (well before the current collapse) when they realized like most users, the ability to use it is too chicken and egg. Ethereum and NFTs I haven't had anyone solidly convince me it does anything differently than a certificate of authenticity.I'll repeat those two concepts: Reloadable gift card. Certificate of Authenticity. When all the tech jargon is peeled away, this is what is left. Anyone who grew up in the 1990s feels the disappointment in those concepts: something you can't spend on whatever you want, and something you hope others value more than you do.FinTech isn't exciting to me. And if this is the best they got, it's nothing to hinge "Web3" upon.

@paul Prob. the best choice. Ubuntu stopped with 18.04 LTS (which expires standard support this year) and Fedora ended 32-bit on Version 30. Debian 11 should have some years left of updates still.

@stux Gen Z see it as old money silencing them because they can't control it. They laugh at the child safety factor when most children thumb their nose at COPPA or it's supposed protections and make social media accounts well below Age 13.

@lowqualityfacts Ours actually had pre existing policy behind it: our workplace has a "no side hustle" policy forbidding staff from taking a 2nd job that imposes on our work in any way. They ended remote work out of fear of overemployment (the practice of adopting two full time remote work positions or more from different employers, then doing marginal to frequently disrupted work in order to collect two full time checks.)Of course, there is nothing really stopping employees from doing that anyways. Unless you like the other job more, when there is a tie, just risk getting fired from Job #2 over the current one.
