@PINE64 It appears that many people do not realize that this practically the first generation of modern linux phones. It's ridiculous to expect perfection at this stage.

@igeljaeger I understand that there is disagreement about whether or not WHO should recognize Taiwan as a country because of political conflict around the topic, but I do not understand how this can be handled so incredibly unprofessionally.

@selea @sir Don't need religion for that, child abuse is disgustingly common even in less religious countries and communities. Germany for instance has child abuse issues as far as I am aware, and we are a mostly secular country. And I am not talking "the baaad muslims/immigrants in Germany abusing their kids", it's an issue among natives and christian/non-religious people just the same.

@selea @sir Sorry, I am just too used to the whole "those foreigners abusing their children" bullshit story, had to say it 😅Indeed child abuse seems prevalent in christian communities too. My point was more that it doesn't matter who is doing it, because it's not any one religion, it's also not just religious people overall, it's widespread beyond that. Every group likes to point fingers at the others, but every group is guilty of this as far as I can see.

@olimex I only just saw that you returned to the fediverse and I am very happy! You make awesome open source hardware that empowers people, and your presence on an open source software network that empowers people is a logical and welcome addition :)Sorry you had a bad experience with fosstodon, but this is also the strength of the fediverse: You are not at the mercy of a single provider. So thanks for being cool and coming back!#olimex #oshw #foss

As many people here on Mastodon are enthusiastic about tech, I want to draw attention to the sustainability issues around this topic.Anyone living in our high-tech world should learn about this:https://solar.lowtechmagazine.com/2009/06/embodied-energy-of-digital-technology.html"The embodied energy of the memory chip alone already exceeds the energy consumption of a laptop during its life expectancy of 3 years."I highly recommend everyone read this article and look through the site.(Site is solar powered and can be down in mornings, check later)

@alcinnz "Computing is environmentally cheap (...)"Computers are not though unfortunately, their production is an often overlooked massive energy expense that often exceeds the running energy consumption of their entire lifespan. There is probably a better way to deal with this through repair and reuse, but either way computers are highly environmentally problematic even before they got to compute anything. :/This article has some good info: https://solar.lowtechmagazine.com/2009/06/embodied-energy-of-digital-technology.html

Does anyone have a suggestion for good Cloudflare alternatives?I suggested removing Cloudflare from the website of an organization and they responded that they share my concerns, but as they are frequently targets of DDoS attacks, they needed some sort of solution. They told me they do not have the resources to create an in-house solution for these attacks, so they asked me for other suggestions.Do any of you have suggestions for less harmful defense against DDoS attacks? Thanks in advance!

My first successful woodworking project, entirely made with hand tools!Wood was prepared with a japanese plane, cut with japanese saws; joints cut and chiseled by hand, glass was cut by hand, even the glue I made myself from glutinous rice! It's not perfect but I learned a ton and am extremely happy with it, given that it's my first project 😊Not sure about the wood, I think it's plum. It was two pieces of european fruit tree scrap wood.#woodworking #diy #crafts #wood #joinery
