we could probably have stopped making consumer grade laptops like ten years ago if we’d just made them repairable and not made software that does the exact same shit it did in 2010 require several times the resources for some reason

@dankwraith i have been experiencing this really directly because the chinese handhelds i’m into all use old dirt cheap MIPS chips and the performance you can get at really low power usage is incredible. the overextension of web tech has ballooned hardware requirements to a point that just isn’t needed for social networking, instant messaging, netflix, and everything else the majority of computer users do
