I’m 99% sure that this is just another George Santos drag persona. Seriously, can anyone prove they’ve been in the same place at the same time?I’ll wait. https://www.nytimes.com/2023/04/21/nyregion/nancy-marks-santos-treasurer.html

“Served on the library board.”I’m telling you the fascists are organized and they know what to take over. School boards. Library boards. City councils. I wish leftists would wake the fuck up.

@Mrfunkedude @fcktheworld587 Turning off notifications was the top one. I also had done that [elsewhere], and I think it’s a great mental health help. My other one is just blocking. Not a lot of hand wringing about it. I’m just doing it. I don’t need any negativity or bullshit or fascism over here. So far, so good.

“He says the robots are going to kill us?” said Ryan Calo, a professor at the University of Washington School of Law, who has attended A.I. events alongside Mr. Musk. “A car that his company made has already killed somebody.”https://www.nytimes.com/2023/04/27/technology/elon-musk-ai-openai.html

“I understand where people on social media are coming from who want to circulate these images in the hopes that it will make a change. But unfortunately, social media as a business is not set up to support that. What it’s set up to do is to profit from the circulation of these images.”https://www.nytimes.com/2023/05/07/business/media/texas-shooting-video-twitter.html?unlocked_article_code=HdGKIHtKsKHxt7oQbtOzj1COPtU1NQ7EAEUaEX6eqgEMpzRC9cL6ltCuOJLFJagUJkWc6Q3x2nTG3szx5AXsBfJxDris18KYKXDkaARXo7-Burn5ZOtv03FyOHujAdfq94MW3rQD74ZznbeJlQhhPw9SQLcgBAc0uy1iwjQYaGh2w5IxHIsmkiEx16iWBCnBQ9GZFr8F5VJPb450yP2l-Y0qIv7eq89qmLTM-g800l19RfU33DUy2VPWL65jM4Qj1AASh27w4UJAZiA2PWklLrNYkxpUZjGt8flRk3dCxPuEBPYvuxumEUi52eZwAbmCVB_I_feB8eK8hs8P4vQBi5PQ-CG8k3QNOol4qbU&smid=nytcore-ios-share&referringSource=articleShare

Feinstein has a lot of nerve. I suppose it’s the people around her, really. But we have a crisis of gerontocracy in this country and it’s not reasonable for people north of 80 to be making all the decisions that will impact multiple future generations.

Because, frankly, why should they give a damn? Just keep counting that money and making decisions to benefit the short-term. Screw the rest of us.

In the case of Feinstein, she has destroyed her own legacy. The person who was there to announce the death of Harvey Milk and Mayor Moscone as an SF Supervisor to Mayor. Years in the Senate. To this.

It may be “her calling” to serve, but what about the other generations who feel similarly called? I don’t know of any generation as selfish as the power-wielding Boomers. Come on.

Siouxsie was incredible. I’ve never heard her speak so much at a show before. There were over 20,000 people there to see just her. I was about as close as one could get to the stage. I’m still processing it, but it felt historic and epic and so well deserved. She will be 66 years old on May 27th. https://www.stereogum.com/2224444/watch-siouxsie-sioux-sing-israel-for-the-first-time-in-a-decade-at-cruel-world-fest/news/

I really also love the idea of her experiencing this resurgence in popularity, attention and respect at this stage of her life, as well as perhaps some greater economic stability, similar to Kate Bush. It’s also nice to know that young people seem to like more complex and less commoditized music when they get a chance to be exposed to it. (I guess Stranger Things featured “Spellbound.” I’m not mad!)

“Contentious issues like race and gender,” says NPR. Meaning: racism, misogyny, transphobia and homophobia. Glad I could help.

During the height of COVID, rental assistance, job assistance, food assistance and more were given to those in need. Student loan payments were paused. The US did not collapse due to these policies. In fact, consumer spending went up.So, given that these things are possible and even economically favorable, one can only conclude that ending them benefits some small but powerful portion of the populace who wants to keep the rest of us under control and in relative, if not full-on, poverty.

The fact that the US government charges interest on student loans is already so offensive and immoral that I don’t even know where to begin.

And I keep being asked about job “losses” due to automation, e.g., generative AI, and all I can say is, these are not people being replaced by AI as such, but their work moving to a different place along the same production chain, then cheapened through a process of deskilling that provides the capitalist class with further excuse to underpay and undervalue. But there is no “generative AI” without human labor, so look to find where it is.

The wonderful @parkermolloy shared this in her (also wonderful) newsletter today. And it’s absolutely spot-on. But I would be remiss were I not to point out that Substack is worrisome in many of the same ways. https://jogblog.substack.com/p/why-are-journalists-still-on-twitter?publication_id=1053124&isFreemail=false&utm_medium=email

As usual, NPR’s reporting on Erdogan’s “re-election” is an absolute joke.
