@thatbrickster @joey I was shooting and dev’ing film until about 7 years ago when my Epson scanner broke (light tube failed, not the light that it needs to illuminate in the lid which scans the film in the film holder, the light for flatbed stuff – but it stops the whole scanner from working even though I never used it for flat art, only film)I’ve still got a handful of old expired film in 135 and 120, only today I took one of my rangefinders and saw what it would take to put a battery in it (Canonet QL25, needs mercury batt, put a different sized hearing-aid cell in which didn’t make contact (needs a metal ring around it) (prob won’t do that in the end, I’ll just use one of my hand held meters and set the exposure manually, which on the QL25 you can do even with no battery in (which you can’t do if you have one of those hipster QL17!)))

@futurebird @BlackAzizAnansi in the times I signed up to mastodon without knowing which thing was which, I ended up on mastodon cloud, and then later mastodon social – both of which are not federated to the pleroma instance I’m currently on because both of those are troublesome in some mannerIt’s quite likely that incoming people who just sign up to mastodon social because it’s the first thing in the list will end up partitioned off from smaller instances that don’t want the hassle of either the likelihood of such a large quantity of idiots or just the bulk amount of traffic, so they end up talking to themselvesMy advice is that it’s okay to have more than one account, spread it around, and it doesn’t have to be actual mastodon, it could be pleroma (the thing I’m on) or misskey / calckey (they’re fun too)It probably shares the load for the instance admins if you’re only spending some of your communicating time on their instance and some on some other instance elsewhereIt also shows up the differences in capabilities and reach of different instances and versions, if you compare between two or more instancesWhen I was on mastodon cloud up until a couple of weeks ago I complained that mastodon was full of ads and spam – turned out it was just mastodon cloud

@justinrassier @davatron5000 @nebunez having more than one instance isn’t a problemWhen I was on mastodon I accidentally had about three different instances because I didn’t get what instances were and back in those days mastodon was so boring and sterile I hardly visited it more than a few months apart, by which time I’d forgotten it all and accidentally signed up to a new instance each timeNow I’m not even on mastodon, I’m still on the fediverse, I’m here on a pleroma instance and I’ve also got a calckey instance account (calckey is a variant of misskey, misskey and pleroma aren’t mastodon but as you can see we can talk with mastodons)Get more than one instance if you like, it’s no problem, and they don’t have to be actual mastodon instances, try pleroma or misskey or calckey – there’s more out there!
