@dekkzz78 @architect @yisraeldov interesting. I've read that the temps never get high in normal room temperatures but I have no first hand experience.

Was interested in to try ovirt as hypervisor and okd as container orchestrator but that setup was way too heavy for my good ol' trusty xeon 5660 and 24gb of ram. I'm still not 100% sold on containers. I understand it benefits for scaling and in large infrastructures but imo it makes a little sense for a homelab.Using images somebody else built just rubs me in the wrong way. And as for the isolation, I'm not sure if it works that well in docker. Podman seems more promising in that regard.

it is really annoying when your system stops working and you really can't figure it out why since you at least don't remember changing anything. spent hours trying to figure out what was the issue since my passthrough via OVMF stopped working.nothing weird in the logs either. Anyway gave up finally and changed my hypervisor in the process from centos to fedora. Mostly because I want newer kernel to play with vfio. glady importing the vms was really simple and everything went smoothly.

@frank don't know but it is a great game. too bad you can't play civ VI anymore with low spec computer. V works just fine with hd4000 graphics.

Lesson learned. If a game says in steam it's ported to linux take it with a grain of salt. Dirt rally needed manual intervention before launching and bioshock infinite has abysmal performance with amd gpu. Always do the research first before buying. gladly steam has a pretty solid return policy.

Also civ VI seems to be broken atm. That and V has always worked so beautifully on linux before. People seem to be pretty pissed at the discussions :P

Trashed my xmpp server. What's the point is nobody wants to use it. Seemed to work very well though. Set up, automate updates and forget about it pretty much with prosody.

I guess I've reached a milestone in red hat infrastructure since I couldn't solve a problem without disabling selinux. It was about samba share from zfs disk. #selinux #samba

People running openbsd as a router: what is your solution for ISP since no fail2ban? I'm currently gravitating towards pf-badhost but I want to know what options I have. #openbsd #fail2ban #isp

My wakeonlan is inconsistant for some reason. every night my server runs backups and wakes up nas from lan but sometimes it works, sometimes it won't. I have no idea why.

I dockerized my homelab a couple of months ago. The reason for this I got tired of maintaining my server and wanted a minimal effort to have nextcloud, bitwarden and a couple of more things running. All the updates are automated which is probably stupid and I must confess I rarely look at the logs what is going on. Neverthereless, it has worked beautifully.

Also had to reinstall my device to get the latest jolla sailfish working on my XA 2 phone. Anyway it's a lot smoother after update.
