@saadnpq for GitHub alternative, you can do git-ssbhttps://git.scuttlebot.io/%25n92DiQh7ietE%2BR%2BX%2FI403LQoyf2DtR3WQfCkDKlheQU%3D.sha256That's probably what I'm going to start using

@saadnpq I still need to get into it more myself. The social networking aspect of SSB is interesting to me too, with git being just one applications on top of it.The video on the homepage is when I got excited about the implications of the technology: https://scuttlebutt.nz/

@saadnpq Thanks for the list by the way. I've been using a catch-all custom domain for email for years going to gmail. i'm gonna pull the plug and move it to proton mail today.

@saadnpq nice! i'll join those later too.You should be able to join multiple and when you're connected to a pub, you should be able to see others that are connected at the same time as you.If you follow them, the pub will facilitate downloading their posts and their friends posts, then you can view stuff even offline. If you make friends in person, the "scuttlebot" inside your app can do the same thing over local networks. Connections grow organically that way.

@saadnpq @ketmorco the most practical use case to me would be attending a protest. Imagine a government knocks out the cell towers, everyone's phones still have local area capabilities and by following people in your immediate vicinity, you get access to their extended network, follow those and further out and so on. Within a few minutes, you've got a low tech mesh network with no middlemen. Not a social media game changer, but a human one.

@saadnpq @ketmorco I think that event in Egypt was the inspiration for this comic book, https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/20736579-hacktivist. That was the first time I learned about decentralization, that we needed it, and that eventually it would be the future. Also I just learned there's a book 2, so I gotta pick that up now.

@saad I'm at the tip of this regret and know I'm going to need to start getting back to it at some point.

@syntax I'm not sure what #Adapt is, but I've been doing web dev for a decade, went from jQuery -> backbone (+Marionette) -> React (+Redux), so I can probably field questions you've got.My overall take, learn them to see what problems they solve and how they solve them. Then take that knowledge and use it to boost your own vanilla JavaScript expertise. Reverse engineering is a more sustainable skill than jumping to the always newer framework. In 2020, I'd also spend my efforts with Svelte.

@syntax I haven't read it, but this book is probably the one I've seen recommended both online and in real life: https://github.com/getify/You-Dont-Know-JS/blob/1st-ed/README.mdThere was also this thread on HN today for a book called Deep JavaScript and the comments have more recommendations: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=23552180The best way to learn will be getting hands on, so maybe even trying to tackle small tasks for Adapt could both help you grow and push the project forward.
