@zleap @jab01701mid I was smoking on a beach while talking to a lifeguard we just befriended from Scotland. She told me to “get my fag butt out her face” bc smoke was going towards her. That’s what I think of when people say that word. Right after, a blonde Bulgarian beauty lifeguard walked over to us. The Scot said to leave her alone bc she had a boyfriend she was “madly in love with.” Only reason I remember that is bc i lost my virginity to the Bulgarian that night. Lol

@zleap @jab01701mid it was a great response from the guy, especially for being so young. I saw a speaker make a great point once. Words are just words and can’t hurt us unless we let them. If someone says the meanest thing ever to us, it can really hurt. But if they said it in a language we don’t know, it has no impact on us. They said the exact same things but only 1 hurt. We didn’t understand so we couldn’t let it hurt us. When we stop letting words hurt us, people lose power over us

@zleap @jab01701mid btw, I absolutely love the decision by the gay community to use a the rainbow as a symbol to represent them. Originally it was just a nature event but it became a religious symbol about the Bible by the people that hate them most…the orthodox Christians. And the lgbt community took their symbol and made it theirs. The religious people had to lose their minds over this

@Tilopa @zleap that’s based on the limited information we know though. There’s a very realistic chance that he gave/sold top secret documents to one of our enemies and they can be used against us.That $2 billion Kushner got from the Saudis seems fair for the info on how to make nukes and intelligence on their enemies, Iran & Israel

@zleap @Tilopa the only positive thing that has come of trump stealing all those documents is that he exposed just how weak and useless our system for dealing with those documents actually is. Once they have been seen by those with approval, it basically becomes an honor system to return them and not take others. Libraries have a better system for monitoring inventories. We don’t even know what’s missing still. It’s really bad.

@zleap @Tilopa yes now is under Biden admin but the documents at his garage were from Obama presidency. Pence had some too. I’d bet a few others have some also. So far they’ve only been found in ex president & ex VP possession so the problem isn’t access but rather the system for managing them. If we aren’t gonna dispose of them automatically then we need a heavily monitoring system. They have to be viewed in completely private settings. Security should be same afterward.

@hakui @Eamon1916 that has nothing to do with this movie. Everyone I talk to over the age of 30 has seen it. Just bc I’ve seen this doesn’t mean I haven’t seen others

@hakui @Eamon1916 that’s not how long term memory works. Once something is embedded in your brain in your long term memory, it’s irrelevant how many other things come into your brain. If it’s in your short term memory, it’s easily forgotten. The only way to forget long term memories is by accessing them. Once they are accessed, they have the ability to be altered and you start doubting them or not remembering them as well.

@hakui @Eamon1916 the craziest thing about that movie is I have a form of the mental disorder he has called harm OCD. I don’t hallucinate or anything like him but basically my brain convinces me that I did the worst thing I can imagine. Then it’s all I can think about which causes bad feelings and leads to more irrational thoughts. Medicine slows my brain down and allows me to function without anyone noticing though. Their withdrawal is worse than heroine but having that disorder active is worse

@zleap @Tilopa that’s why we need a new system that doesn’t allow them to take those documents without it being tracked. There’s no excuse for us not even knowing what’s missing

@Tilopa I wish he would actually talk about this and keep bringing it up until people realize that a good portion of this “inflation” we are all having to pay for with interest rate hikes is actually just corporate price gouging. If I was an egg company, I’d raise prices to $10 a dozen or more after seeing how there’s no consequences for it and the general public is accepting blame and sacrificing their $ to unsuccessfully fix price gouging mislabeled as inflation

@Jennifer_Pinkley @WendyNowak @pennine @zleap the same propaganda campaign that keeps us supporting something absolutely terrible for us is now effectively using the same tactics in the UK. It’s crazy how many people will vote to screw themselves bc of it.

@zleap @Jennifer_Pinkley @WendyNowak @pennine oh I’m sure. Murdoch has publications in the UK and those that stand to profit from it are fully engaging in propaganda campaigns to persuade voters. I can’t think of a single thing in history that went from govt run to private and actually became better. It’s always, always, ALWAYS more expensive for lower quality.

@Radical_EgoCom @zleap I worked all through high school since it was the only way to fund my drug habit. I graduated just fine after 6 years

@zleap @Radical_EgoCom I started working at age 12 cutting lawns. I was a caddy at 13 & dishwasher at 14. I was never allowed to miss school over it. I know the motives for companies using kids are bad but I really don’t think there’s anything wrong with kids working if their parents allow it. This entire thing seems like either pearl clutching or just automatically attacking anything from Republicans. I don’t think this is a winning argument to fight for dems.

@zleap @Radical_EgoCom I agree with all this. Issue I’m having is these posts are making it seem like kids were previously prevented from working and now they’re going to be allowed to and that shouldn’t happen. I didn’t click on the stories bc the headlines just made me mad. If it’s simply that they are removing laws that protected kids at work, then the headlines should say that. But the implications were that kids could now work and that’s bad.

@zleap @truthat I am all on board with that. There needs to be protections from the govt to protect them. But they should also be able to work if it’s relatively safe. Even in my teens, I rarely worked more than 1 school night a week and was done by 10 or 11 at latest. It was always weekends and summers so as not to interfere with school. I was doing this at age 12. My entire point was that the headlines made it seem like kids couldn’t work before and now they can which wasn’t true

@zleap @truthat and if that’s the case, based purely on being one of the 99% of people who didn’t read the full story, it gives the impression of dems being overprotective & interfering in how republicans are raising their kids to work. The headlines present a very different picture and it’s little things like that which can help sway independent voters. Rather than people actually seeing the story about rolling back safety protections to endanger teens, that’s much different

@zleap @Radical_EgoCom here’s an example. What’s wrong with teens doing roofing? I did construction and siding when I was 15 over the summer. Tough work but it was cool to learn.
