there are lots of reasons why youd use vim but "it follows the unix philosophy" is not one of them

@wizard @CalmByte @fribbledom while php is an awful language, the ease with which it can be setup and do stuff with, the fact it can be used essentially anywhere, its interoperation with html and css (which are also simple),php taught me i didnt need super skills to be able to share something with the world.

@jalcine is qt/qml cpp based? asking only because ive had issues compiling c++ stuff on arm devices before, and i think that its important that arm computers can be self hosting (even if the majority of people use choss compiled binaries)correct me if im wrong, or if things have changed! :)

@pkotrcka ive tried herbstluft, and had the same issue with it that i had with ratpoison and co. i dont find that the manual tiling works well on smaller screens, and the biggest screen i got is a 15" 4:3 monitor.i did like the shell script client setup though.

@BalooUriza i mean depending on which bit of the unix philosophy youre applying, "text streams" or "one thing well",,,,id say that maybe vi fits into the latter, but a large amount of vim users wouldnt manage in vibut yeah, not following unix isnt necessarily a bad thing , and vim definitely doesnt.

@wistahe @wistahe ive used (roughly in order)openboxmatexfceunityi3pantheonawesomelxdetwmstumpwmratpoisondwmxmonadcwmwmutilsim not a massive fan of i3, i dont like having to position windows myself - i prefer dwm or xmonad.i liked stumpwm for the lisp but it was too heavy - similar with awesome.the ones i come back to are cwm and dwm, depending on floaty or tiley mood. simple and cute.

@matt yes but kjv must be the right bible version because in the musical joseph has a coloured coatand kjv is the only one where his coat is coloured therefore it cant not be the most accurate

@matt on a more serious, i like a lot of what youve just said, but i think that the most important aspect of the king james is that it was in english. i dont know how thatd fit into the analogy, but it was only by enforcing it as the correct interpretation that the english version got any real uptake.thats how i see it anyway. i dont think the great bible or the bishop bible got pushed as much, which meant that priests could continue to keep bollocking their congregations.

sometimes it's important to remember that privacy in technology isn't necessarily about wanting to hide something, it's about not wanting to show something

yes im not a criminalit probably isn't going to affect my life in any significant way if the government read my mailbut there's something unnatural about someone finding out that i am gay (or that my sister is pregnant, or that my mother has cancer, or) before the intended recipient
