       Actually the act of justifying an immoral position or action by telling stories or getting away from them is not restricted to children and many adults also do this. This is pretty close to the "fudge factor" concept and some other mental tricks  described by Dan Ariely in The Honest Truth about Dishonnesty (no virgin-neurbollocks out there only Chad experimental cognitive psychology).
