@joel It has the same problem as Signal: you're locked into their server.(At least the Signal server is open source, but you can't run your own and chat with people on the "official" server)

@joel I use Syncthing too (PC↔NAS↔phone), and Strawberry to create .m3u playlists. Both VLC(phone) and Jellyfin(home/work) understand .m3u, and it's just a list of filenames, so fairly future proof (migrating playlists from Plex was... interesting)And as a bonus, `cat`ting them together works.I'm using Jellyfin on my NAS so Kodi(Librelec) can play music to my home system, and for playing music at work (and other places that fail to keep me away from their music PC).

@mike I backed them in 2018 and assumed it wasn't going to happen around 2020.If they do deliver that would be a nice surprise, but I'm not getting my hopes up before I'm holding an actual device in my hands.

@mike Yeah, I guess nobody is happy about it, bit I get the reasoning, and it's better than just going bankrupt. As backer I knew there was a considerable¹ chance of them not delivering, but nobody would place a regular order now if they had to get in line behind all backers.¹ It seems people crowdfunding their first hardware project have a tendency to massively underestimate the challenges going from prototype to mass-delivery.

@thelinuxcast I think it makes sense: it's much easier to explain that "Messages send with Signal are secure" than "Every time you send a message with Signal, you need to check whether it's a secure message".I know plenty of people who mix up SMS/WhatsApp messages, and those aren't even in the same app.

@tulpa I don't understand how factory-installed blobs are fine, but upgrading them is a no-no.I can see how ideally we'd avoid all hardware needing blobs, but I expect there wouldn't be any viable choices left.

@joel Well, now I feel less bad about forgetting how to solve differential equations 🙂
