@cblgh Some of the plantfriends like water only every 2-day or every 4-day or once a week. I don't have an explicit system: when I do my daily look-at-the-plants walk, I kinda intuitively gauge if it's time for water.

I wish more people could see that the stuff they hate about "modern society" are things that can actually be changed. That lots of the things that suck are only necessitated by the way we're collectively living & the systems we're propping up.

What would your solarpunk dream "job" be?By "job", I mean: what kinds of things would you want to do in/for/with your community that brings you 🌟?I think for me it'd helping folx repair stuff, find new uses for old things, and teach sustainable lo-tech replacements for hi-tech stuff folx thought they needed but didn't. Oh! And going off on adventures to forage foods & natural materials.

A fun project of mine has been studying the movement of the moon using a compass and a hand-made inclinometer.Even though humans figured this stuff out a long time ago, it's been really satisfying to make first-hand observations myself and try to understand the movements of the earth and celestial bodies. :_moonstars:

@neauoire The obvious solution (to me) is to buy 3-5 backup Commodore Amigas (even broken ones, for parts) to replace this one in case it fails, not replacing it with a "modern" system.

Thinking about software rasterization a bit more lately after a LONG time.I had forgotten how much fun this subject is to me :3Here's a screenshot from a voxel heightmap renderer I wrote several years ago.

It was for a mech game I had wanted to make, where you can control mechs AND also be a tiny person on the ground trying to survive mech v mech chaos.

"Archer's Knot": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vXu3NgWHMvAA really handy knot where the loop stays fixed /w tension on the standing end, and the working end can be cinched to shrink the loop.Fun fact: this knot seems to be the complement of the Arbor Knot (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arbor_knot), where standing end tension cinches the loop & the working end doesn't.Also, handy rope terminology that really helped me out: https://www.ropebook.com/information/knots/terminology/#theWorkshop

https://www.theverge.com/c/24070570/internet-cables-undersea-deep-repair-ships"Fortunately, there is enough redundancy in the world’s cables to make it nearly impossible for a well-connected country to be cut off, but cable breaks do happen. On average, they happen every other day, about 200 times a year. The reason websites continue to load, bank transfers go through, and civilization persists is because of the thousand or so people living aboard 20-some ships stationed around the world, who race to fix each cable as soon as it breaks."Thanks @noelle@tech.lgbt for sharing!

One of my metrics for a #solarpunk future: nobody has to do a job that you yourself aren't willing to spend some of your time doing as well.*holds up rag & soap* I am ready and willing to clean my share of the toilets if y'all are also ready to pitch in. 🧼However, I think working in mines is awful, so I'm very happy to make do with reusing the minerals we've already extracted if it means nobody else has to either.
