@pippin @tilton In think I came in from Yahoo!. After dealing with Yahoo's cluttered AF internet front page, Google was tidy, sensory bliss.

@EU_Commission It is disappointing to learn that the EC is in favour of apartheid.

@lowqualityfacts With the ultimatum given, being found in the area later implies that they're not civilians and therefore legitimate targets

@stux I keep all my smart home crap on a dedicated subnet and restrict the servers its allowed to talk to. I also log, and if it does something weird it's getting yeeted.

@TechConnectify I think Volvo introduced these circa 2005 in the uplift to the C/V/S/XC models. My 2002 XC70 doesn't have them, but 2006 XC70s do. It's a common mod on the older cars to swap the rear light clusters for the newer ones with the side markers.

Did you know that an air source heat pump costs £5,400 to £8,000 retail, and you can get a grant from the Government of up to £7,500 towards the cost of buying and installing it?There are probably catches like you have to use an MCS registered installer, which would increase the price a bit, but even factoring that in, with the grant, the difference between air source heat pump and a combi boiler of comparable output is only a grand or so.

Unfortunately, there is a lot of FUD being circulated about heat pumps, e.g., they don't work in cold weather (they do, and are actually ideally suited to our climate in the UK), they're not as powerful (they are), they're noisy (only 40-60 dB(A) at 1m, comparable to a fridge or modern dishwasher), they only work with underfloor heating (they work just fine with radiators)

To give you an idea of the difference between normal ISPs and @aaisp Other ISPs: "Technical fault. We'll have it fixed whenever."@aaisp: "Oh, yeah. We discovered a failed $networkDevice at $location. We've planned engineering work to resolve this properly on $futureDate. In the meantime, affected customers have been moved to alternative infrastructure. We're also doing a root-cause analysis to prevent this kind of issue causing outages for customers in the future."

@q @ryanpaaz @TechConnectify This. 120% this. Engineering safety-related products while claiming that they're not safety-related because the operator will supervise them in operation just does not wash, but that's the space we've found ourselves in. And it's not solely related to automobiles. Just ask @qdot
