So I have this cart. The kind of little tiny grocery cart that has 4 wheels and is low to the ground and folds up, with a handle you can pull, sort of like a lot of rolling luggage. the cart has a web server, solar panel, battery, charger, and a lot of cardboard signs. I am trying to figure out how this artifact relates to people around it, how to get people to interact in a useful way. Maybe a sign that says "FREE WEB PAGES!" and I make people free web pages? I think that might be worth a try.do people even care that a web page exists that isn't on some stupid app?

I've heard "the cloud" described as "other people's computers". But I think those of us who are enemies of this system should re-frame this as "computers owned by billionaires". I want people to see the nightmare face of Bezos leering out of the flames of Hell every time they hear the word "cloud" to describe something other than weather patterns."other people's computers" isn't the problem. The problem is that those "other people" are the dozen or so worst human beings on this planet.

@kfogel Ghidra is an interesting case. If what I heard is true, it went from fully classified to open source after the Snowden leaks. Maybe that doesn't count since it was not published at all initially? https://github.com/NationalSecurityAgency/ghidra/ It's the most radical change in license status of a piece of software I've ever heard of.

Trash magic is designed to work as an anarchist ontology engine. We aim to implement hypertext in a really free way. We get free hardware from anyone willing to donate. Put it up online in donated space in homes and offices. Servers have no private property of any kind on them, at all, ever. They have no users, no logins, no passwords, no personal identity of any kind. And they exist outside the property system. They can be client or server equally. They are interchangeable. They host self-replicating code which replicates entirely on the CLIENT SIDE of the browser. And the documents all look like cardboard.

What is a "company"?When I think back to my time as a capitalist a million years ago, I viewed it as a network of "things" in a sense which included investors, employees, consultants, landlords, neighbors, customers, platforms, advertisers, suppliers, products, machines and so on. All these things in my mind formed a graph through which information and materials flowed. It was a world. A language. A universe. But it's not working. The ontology of the company is not getting the things done that need to get done in society today. Nor is the State. When I say I am interested in an anarchist ontology, this is what I mean: we need to build a tool set which people can use to build complex structures of "things" in the same way that a company is a thing.

@matthew cool! What I envision here is building what I call an "anarchist bell system". It looks like that's a thing you're already doing! As are lots of people now. I think we all need to just link up and try to organize a social network. And by that I mean the whole bell system from Western Electric to Bell Labs. We can find everything we need in waste streams. We can use existing network connections from friendly allies we recruit to let us set up hosting at their places. We ask for people to give us what we need and then set up networking to help them do whatever they need doing until we replace the whole system: cloud, apps, platforms, ISP's, mobile carriers, hardware makers. The hardware is out there. The software works. We need only the social structures to support all this. Which is hard. But so was building the original Bell System! What part of the world are you in?

@ParadeGrotesque I support this sentiment! Mastodon is ludicrously hard to get working given how simple what it does is. What this has done in my view is gatekeep, and it's built a culture of people who benefit from that gatekeeping.
