And in this country, the vast majority of them go out west for fricken almonds and fake 'milk' they get from it. With the concomitant damage to the bee population. The majority of them never make it back. Even without the grossness of 'almond milk', almonds are really not all that essential to any human's diet. We could live without them. The world certainly doesn't need how much is produced. The bees can be put to much better use and be better taken care of. Fucking vegans.It's also in selling equipment and bees to other beekeepers.I definitely had/have an interest in the honey. But, though I don't fully buy into Erika Thompson's "it's the bees' honey, they earned it" reasoning for not harvesting honey (though she does harvest a small amount for friends and family, not to sell), she does have an attitude I can endorse: "The colony before the honey."

Unlike the cringeworthy The Beekeeper(1). Peter Fonda was trained and actually did some of the beekeeping in the movie. Those who trained him are from L L. Lanier's. @freemayonnaise @BroDrillard @sickburnbro It has irritated me to no end to browser beekeeper sites and see what they offer for queens and see one of the selection criteria as 'vaccinated'. Makes me want to get better at beekeeping and make sure weak colonies get attention earlier enough so that they can raise their own, new queen if needed. It already happened once to one of my colonies. Tremendously satisfying when the bees fix themselves and not have to intervene unless absolutely necessary.

At the moment, it's a bit overkill for me to intervene and grow queens unless I'm going to sell them. There's a local guy I bought a queen from for $35. He had some life interruptions but will be back to doing that again shortly. So I have at least one local source. I also may try some swarm rescues this year, if I can convince my boss to allow me to step away at a moment's notice (I've already bribed him with 1lb of honey, so, there is that). I also have a swarm trap.
