Measuring the overhead of multiprocessing v.s. the new PEP684 subinterpreter. Starting 100 sub interpreters (each with its own GIL and therefore able to run truly in parallel) is 5.6x faster. #python

Playing with PEP684 sub interpreters even more. If you have “no site” on the sub interpreter, instantiating them is about 50% faster. This would apply when the sub interpreter doesn’t need packages outside the standard library #python

Can someone help solve this mystery..Why do some people put their mobile phone on loud speaker and walk around holding it in front of their face having a conversation instead of using the normal speaker and holding it against their ear? This has puzzled me for years.

@simon the most upsetting part to me is that the cars in the first two are going round the track anti clockwise which is of course wrong.

@simon the University even included a link in their GAI policy (the policy is quite interesting) because it influenced a lot of their thinking https://policies.mq.edu.au/download.php?associated=1&id=768&version=1

@simon I’m happy with GitHub pages. I got burnt with Medium. I feel better that I own all the content in Markdown so I can move in future if possible. Wrote a very small static site generator for the posts and RSS feed that styles the markdown with bootstrap then the homepage uses Render Engine https://github.com/tonybaloney/tonybaloney.github.io/blob/master/blog-gen.py

Thank you for including the date whichever Python engineer left this comment. Also, if the todo has been there 21 years, maybe it’s not getting done 🤷🏻♂️

Instead of moaning on Mastodon I’ve submitted a PR to remove the comment.

@foone PyPi was originally called the “Cheese Shop” (from the sketch and it also has no cheese). Python “Wheels” are a joke on that (wheel of cheese). Python’s build bots are named after characters in the Holy Grail. The CLA enforcement bot was called the “Knights who say Ni”
