I find the concept of a "test of faith" disturbing, even when used in a non-religious context.Under the "test of faith," we are told that it is virtuous to keep a belief even when presented with evidence that we are wrong.That is not virtue. That is arrogant obstinance and I'm generally embarrassed when I catch myself doing it. I should probably be more embarrassed more often about that. The test of faith seems to be a deliberate attempt to indulge a bad impulse.

I spent 3 years of my childhood living in American military bases in Germany. The whole time I was there, I never saw a single German "honor their heritage" by waving Nazi flags or erecting Nazi statues. Not one. Because unlike certain Americans, Germans don't put evil on literal pedestals.

@joel I'm American, and too many of our breakfast items belong on a dessert tray.I like both pancakes and waffles, but I'm getting on in years and have to control my sugar intake, so I don't eat them very often. If you made me pick one, pancakes because they are easier to make.
