@lauren I expect that, in the short term, this may boost Twitter’s revenues, since so many for-profit companies have integrated Twitter into their products. But in the long term how could any of these companies ever entrust their future to Twitter?

@film_girl @davew @simon It’s true that the ability to discern reality from fiction is always important, but for the written word that has traditionally been the role of editors and fact-checkers. When an AI is trained on a corpus of unknown provenance it can be much, much, harder to know what is true.

@lauren I may be wrong, but spying isn’t the top concern. Manipulating the American electorate using their extensive understanding of users behavior and their (by all accounts excellent) algorithm is more likely what politicians fear.

@dave My prediction is that this will massively increase business productivity, thereby concentrating more wealth among the wealthiest, while putting lots and lots of people out of work.
