@hj Does that mean I won't get the "User not found" bugginess less often? Because that'd be nice...

@hj N'yet. I'd have to properly isolate it for that.

@cjd @redchrision @cryptpad "Strong Opinions, Weakly Held". That's an interesting sentiment I can't quite place. Are you quoting someone?

@FourOh-LLC @Peripheres > Be advised, I am NOT anonymous. Everything I write online I do with a purpose. I want credibility, I want historical authenticity.I happen to be doing the same thing, but I also find many anonymous people extremely credible (Scott Alexander before he got doxxed or Gwern Branwen for example). There's a sense in which one's ideas are evaluated more objectively, on their own merits, when published anonymously. Lovecraft's mythos is no less fascinating for his xenophobia, and there's a danger in leveling blanket judgement on all of someone's ideas for better or worse. (Of course, the history and behavior of whoever authored an idea can be very useful in contextualizing that idea, as in the case of Ayn Rand's objectivism.) I don't disagree that writing under one's own name has much to recommend it, but purposeful and meaningful writing can and does happen anonymously.I'm not sure what you mean by "historical authenticity" however. Would you mind elaborating on that?

@FourOh-LLC @Peripheres And you define that as, "historical authenticity"? Seems to me like a very dogmatic approach to identity: "Give me your Tax Name or you're a bot and you can't convince me otherwise".

@FourOh-LLC @Peripheres To be clear, legal proceedings should proceed with legal names. That's fairly clear cut. But reasonable people can and should practice more discretion than that, seeing as we aren't subject to the same constraints.

@Peripheres @FourOh-LLC You're using a brand new handle to vomit disruptive digressions into a conversation where FourOh's arguing that anonymous people aren't worth listening to.

@FourOh-LLC ...I assume you mean, "How does that amount to not listening?"> Be advised, I am NOT anonymous. Everything I write online I do with a purpose. I want credibility, I want historical authenticity.> show me where a handle is respected.Firstly, I'm trying to extrapolate a coherent position out of a very limited set of posts you've made. If the above quotes aren't saying that anonymous handles aren't respectable or credible I really don't know what they're saying. And to me that generally implies they shouldn't be listened to.Your distinction of, "no, they just shouldn't have write access" is a complete non sequitur. Write access is a narrow, technical concept and I really don't see how it applies here. @Peripheres is anonymous, and he has, "write access", to this conversation. At least until both of us block him/his instance. Are you suggesting he shouldn't?

@FourOh-LLC @Peripheres If that's all you're saying, that's correct if a bit boring. Yes, government officials shouldn't take their queues from anonymous handles on twitter. The experts that guide them however loose something important by ignoring unverified accounts.

@FourOh-LLC @Peripheres Actually, I'm not sure even that generalizes. Scott Alexander appears to have had readers in office from before he was unmasked; I can't really condemn that as a bad thing.

@amolith @June I'm increasingly convinced that, "actual reasoning" is a rarefied commodity around passwords. We've known for a long time that the thing which matters with passwords is entropy, and password hashing has been mandatory since before I was born, yet somehow blindingly bone-headed design like maximum password lengths are still common practice.
