Spent several hours this afternoon building more robust Beancount reporting automation for Democrats Abroad Canada, which will save me maybe 20 minutes of tedious Excel mashing a month; might've been worth it. Despairing of being able to hand this system to someone else at the end of my term, but alternatives for real multi-currency accounting are quite expensive

@lanodan I'm complaining from the perspective of trying to maintain an Enterprise Monorepo™️ so I'm essentially my own distro.Your comment reminded me that there are other use cases -- ceiling pins are probably a reasonable compromise for someone who's just trying to install the damn thing in an isolated virtualenv.I wonder if some kind of "soft ceiling" (i.e. prefer version 1, but try to run on version 2 if it's present) would be a useful concept.

@lanodan Yes and yes. A tool like pipx should probably prefer a lockfile to wheel metadata but doesn't seem to look for them today.I think there's a colorable argument that if you're shipping a lockfile somewhere you expect it to grow stale, you might actually want something like semver-ceilings in order to permit security updates to dependencies, but maybe that makes nobody happy!

@simon It's the trivial case of what you're describing but I guess I shouldn't be surprised that ChatGPT will even try to imitate Q on demand. I thought for sure this prompt would tickle the naughty filter.Interestingly, it's a very poor imitation of Q's posts, but captures the Qanon grifter ecosystem very well

Are HOT SINGLES in YOUR AREA mishandling RADIOLOGICAL MATERIALS? I wrote @whoopsie so you can stay on top of these energetic trends. It toots out Event Notifications published daily by the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission. It's an interesting mixture of sources getting run over by construction equipment, getting lost in the mail, falling off the back of trucks, being disposed of improperly, somehow getting misadministered to patients -- and also power plant workers failing breathalyzers.
