YouTube is becoming a worse and worse experience every day. I'm incredibly excited about the potential of creators finally getting fed-up with Google and moving to PeerTube. Creators like @chriswere@share.tube are paving the way, and this is the first time the online video space has felt exciting again in at least a decade! Keep up the good work!

@Sabex@noagendasocial.com I think it would be really interesting to see Microsoft's take on Windows as a desktop environment. I'm a big Gnome user myself, and like it more than the Windows 10 UI lately, but Microsoft has been doing better, and I think they could create something pretty interesting!

@agentcasey@toot.masto.host I always look at these types of videos as "making things more approachable for the masses". I think you've nailed it in that the video might not present you with new ideas, but it should be fun and entertaining, and also give you a resource to share with your circle that might not have discovered the value in a setup like this yet!

I remember starting my first YouTube channel around 2008 and thinking how much fun it was to share cool projects I was working on, reviews for weird hardware, etc. And then monetization came along and I was like, "Oh neat, I can get paid a bit of money for making my videos." It was never enough to really matter (most of my videos only had 10-20k views) but it was still nice knowing that Google was sharing the wealth with everyone.Fast-forward 10+ years and YouTube has transformed into a series of creators all making the same derivative content, chasing YouTube's algorithm in the hopes that they too will be able to become the next social media influencer. All the while, all of this is built on the back of harvesting people's private data and watch habits and selling targeted advertisements, generating billions of dollars for Google, millions of dollars for a handful of YouTubers, and next to nothing for everyone else.This turned into a much longer rant than I intended, but obviously this is a subject that is important to me. I started TILvids to build a community that could do better than all of this. And I'm so glad that creators like you are willing to take a chance and help support that. We all deserve better than what Google has done to the state of online video.

@lps@video.1146.nohost.me Engagement is huge. Creators put a TON of work into their creative efforts, and there's nothing worse than spending 10+ hours making a video, only to have 3 views and no comments. The more people engage here, the more it drives creators. Good job, keep it up!

@lps@video.1146.nohost.me Yeah for sure, thank you all for being great members of the community and supporting everything!I definitely didn't make the decision to not federate lightly, but it was the best solution I could come up with to work around the problems emerging from a completely open ecosystem. I'm actually incredibly excited to get past this initial growth stage of #tilvids ...not that I'm not enjoying it, because I love building things, but I have a vision of where I want things to go, and that very much includes starting to help creators branch out to their own instances where they own/control their own means of hosting their content, and even start helping others to grow as well, and we all work together to lift each other up.

@quinn64@queer.party This is definitely a problem for new users. They arrive, and their feed is empty. That's one place that could be improved, so that users don't think Mastodon is completely empty.

@loveisgrief@mastodon.online I've actually tried to reach out to Mozilla multiple times to convince them to have an active presence in the fediverse, but never have heard back. That seems like such a much more obvious angle for them.
