@Dolus @hakui Your nib is weird. If it’s rusty or a used one – better buy a new one, they’re cheap. If it’s a new one, make sure you clean it from the conservation oil until ink stops forming blobs on the nib surface and wets it evenly. There are three ways to clean it from oil: 1) rub with a toothbrush and toothpaste (needs care, long time and you risk to hurt the tines); 2) lower the nib with a pincer into a flask with a clean solvent (acetone, propanone) and whisk it there for 1–2 minutes (needs good ventilation in the premises); 3) put the nib into fire for 10–15 seconds, repeat 3–4 times (nice if you have a gas stove);I use acetone and then put into fire.If a nib blots, you put too much ink on it. There shouldn’t be a lot of ink, “as much as the nib can hold”, when you bring it to the paper, generally, there should be a half of that amount or less. Though you may the edge of the ink bottle to let the excess ink return to the bottle, there still may be too much. Professional calligraphers use a small brush to wipe the ink back to the bottle. I use a brush too. It’s the cleanest and safest way to work with ink. (Any small brush will do, though it would be best if you can find a thin flat one, preferably made of some natural hair, because those brushes are typically of higher quality, they don’t lose hair into your ink bottle or leave hair on your nib, you don’t need to cut the hair that sticks out (from bad brushes there’s always some hair sticking out), it just works.) You can also buy specialised ink holder frame, but they typically come in pairs nib – ink holder and aren’t interchangeable. You don’t really need one, unless you do some really long strokes, like ornamental ones. They also need to be taken off, cleaned each time, so the brush way adds less mendou.Your nib seems to have needle-sharp tip. I wouldn’t say they’re good for novices. What most people expect from a copperplate nib actually gives a round hand nib with a thin tip, like this one https://scribblers.co.uk/product/leonardt-round-hand-nib-4-size/(size 5 or 6 would be thinner). The thing is, when people were still writing with a quill, they made the tip flat, but really thin, kind of like on that round hand nib. A needle sharp tip was impossible, because with the organic material of a feather, the tines would curl and rub out. A round hand nib permits less flex, but that’s exactly the amount of flex a novice needs. That said, don’t look at the thinner size, with a bigger nib, drawing bigger letter shapes you’ll learn faster. When you were a child you learned to write not by ant-sized writing, big moves are easier to grasp (the paper cost though…;;;;;) Speaking of nibs, the examples in that book seem to be made with a pencil, those strokes don’t have any contrast. You may hold to the generic ≈52…53° ±10°, but in these shape I read the change in the angle. As the examples do not show where the weight should be applied on the pen, it’d be fortune telling on the clouds, how the letterforms should look like. I wouldn’t dare to guess, and without that you simply can’t write anything the way it’s meant to.Your paper seems fine, though if you notice, that the nib digs in the paper, check against the light that the paper surface doesn’t have microscopic hairs. Other reasons may be paper is too thin or the tines are too sharp (rub the tip sideways against your nail as if making a cardiogram then). The old paper was thick and had a palpably bumpy surface, but the bumps were smooth, so your best paper is thick (not thin) and smooth (not hairy), it may be bumpy or flat, but god forbid you to use glossy paper – you’ll get a Swan Lake.Oh, and a fountain pen wouldn’t be any different, they too can blot, need cleaning (reassembling it precisely is a special sort of fun) and require care with filling them – the only difference is that you can stick any nib into your pen holder and continue writing, while a fountain pen has a very limited set of nibs, that it can be used with.Gambatte~

@Nightingalle Well, you may have a fun time composing a letter back in a really illegible script and trying to explain how you cannot return his feelings, picking words so that it seemed cute, but almost retarded. Like, as if you’re on the same vibe, but still cannot be together because > reasons

I appreciate that Pleroma tries to be intellectual and act ahead, but… how do I tell it, that when I click on somebody’s avatar, it’s not necessarily to mute them?..

Time has come for me to abandon this instance, because a week didn’t pass since the last time I bothered the admin about plemora, and I’ve grown to think that I’m bothering them too often. As one time I’ve left Smug, because my hate to the (then yet new) interface would bother nepnep, now I don’t want to trouble Syldexia, so it’s better to just move back.It was a nice run, I thank the admin and wish them all the well.
