Legislative sessions across US states determined to weaken workers' and union rights. A state can't tout its economy if its businesses won't hire anyone, and are firing many of the workers they have.Get ready, because this train is firmly on the rails and ready to leave the station.

Equality and equity are necessary if we hope to continue living on this planet with any of the other life it supports. The developed world's exploitation of peoples and entire nations, all in the name of cheaper materials and bargain basement labor, does more to kill our planet than your eating a burger or drinking almond milk.You know why businesses source metals from nations halfway across the world, why they hire people they can pay literal pennies a year. Why they delight in finding a government ready to dig a pit mine or host a chemical plant.Capitalism. Profit.If you and the other two hundred people at your job were co-owners, you could vote for better company policies. You could elect managers willing to buy materials with a clean provenance. You could work together to run a business with sturdy, quality products people used guilt-free.Instead, you likely work for someone elected by rich people, chosen for their willingness to make the "hard decisions" of exploitation and "cost-trimming" that will make everyone but you richer.Socialism—the real deal, not the European struggle to keep both populace and industry balanced; the kind where every employee is an owner—could do so much to get Earth back on track. If we killed the very idea of profit, choosing instead to produce what people need and give it to them, we might actually repair. Or recycle. Or repurpose.We might even stop razing forests for farmland, or chewing huge holes in the landscape to find hunks of rare earth metals. You and I would finally, legitimately have a say in those decisions.
