If you’re new to Mastodon, you may at some point find that you’re being pressured to put your posts behind a content warning (CW). Although CWs make sense for things like images of violence or nudity, some people are bullying others to put CWs on discussions of politics, racism, etc. Please know that you should not feel pressured to obey these individuals. They do not speak for all. If someone does not want to be exposed to these topics, Mastodon gives them all the tools they need to avoid them, such as keyword filters and the ability to block or mute people who are posting things they don’t like.

@babinaba @Ricardus There is nothing wrong with posting a picture of your dog, and I don’t think anyone could reasonably say that such a picture should be behind a CW.That said, do try to use hashtags so that people who are interested can see those pix and those who aren’t can filter them out. For example, there’s a hashtag “# mon dog” (without spaces - I added them so this post wouldn’t show up under that hashtag) for posting dog photos on Monday. I filter that out so my feed isn’t inundated with dog photos on Mondays, while others may follow that hashtag to see all the amazing doggos. 🙂

Everyone’s talking about the fact that an iPhone survived a fall from an airplane. What they should be talking about is how the owner didn’t have even the most basic security on the phone, so the finder could open it up and look at the owner’s e-mail. 😬Why is this even a thing in 2024? 🤯

Since I’m getting a lot of replies from folks who haven’t seen the photo, here it is. The phone was found beside the road, and the finder even commented on the fact that it wasn’t locked.

I’m actually really curious about this. If anyone reading doesn’t have a lock on their phone, or knows someone who doesn’t, I’d love to hear more about why. Is there a particular reason?

I’m curious what folks think of DNS over HTTPS. I’ve got an opinion, and have read some things that agree, but just wondering if anyone has counter points. (Trying not to bias by saying what my opinion is.)

I just saw a little ermine bouncing along the side of the road near my house. It didn't sit still long, but I managed to get two quick shots before it disappeared into the woods. I got very lucky with this one!Believe it or not, these teeny little critters can take down a large snowshoe hare many times their size. #photography
