When I refactored the #BlenderBIM Add-on at the start of the year, I fully decoupled the code that manipulates #BIM open data standards from Blender. The end result is that now there is a high level, expressive free software API for the entire industry to automate, generate, and manipulate BIM data. It's still early days, but the future is bright!

Yes. Go #OpenBIM. Go #OpenSource. #IFC can also create semantic detail drawings using IfcAnnotation that annotate and embellish elements. These sample details were done in pure #NativeIFC using completely #FreeSoftware!

I'd like to share an incredible FOSS project known as BOLTS: it's a slowly growing database of tech specs for design and construction, started by an OpenSCAD dev who wanted standard bolts and washers. It now has all standardised EU/AU structural steel profiles in an agnostic backend powering #OpenSCAD, #FreeCAD, and #NativeIFC software like the #BlenderBIM Add-on.There is ongoing work to extend the database with architectural dimensions, US/Indian profiles, and more.https://boltsparts.github.io/en/index.html

@aral @louis what if there was a pledge of mastodon instances to only grow to a maximum of 150 users (or 1k, whatever) and anybody who is part of the pledge must defederate with any instance larger than this? "The small federation pledge" :)

@aral @louis and joining the federation would involve choosing one of these instances for "normal users" by reading a short blurb (the same size as a toot), seeing an optional image, then a selection of trending toots from that instance so they get a feel of "is this for me".

@ZachWeinersmith you'd think that with the barriers to entry to self hosting your own blog, gallery, video website, resume, portfolio, etc over time we'd get greater diversity on the web.But I guess people are fine with being channeled and it's too much work to surf the web yourself.
