I’m no branding expert but changing HBO to Max and Twitter to X seem like huge unforced errors. “It’s not TV, it’s HBO” was such effective marketing for so long. Now their new brand has to have a subtitle telling people that Max is where to watch HBO when they could have just kept HBO. And Twitter? You couldn’t come up with a more ubiquitous branded phrase than “tweets” if you tried. It’s like Band-Aid or Dumpster. Do these clowns think the letter X has some special power?

Thank you for all the thoughtful responses to this question. I would add:1. Republicans are voted out of power because they take it too far and folks in the middle finally get sick of it. Democrats get voted out because they are too timid to wield power effectively.2. More people voted for Trump in 2020 than in 2016, and I would wager even more vote for him in 2024. People like what Trump and the GOP are selling because it’s immediate. Democrats touting slow systemic change isn’t visceral.
