There is a rampant amount of uneducated anti paraphilia and anti kink zoos in the zoo community which is very disappointing since these people can cause a great deal of gatekeeping and harm to those that seek resources or support. It’s also ridiculous to say zoophilia is not a paraphilia. People who want to continue to internalize that obviously are trying to ‘purify’ their own image and identity and as much as that is understandable, you can’t make your own image cleaner while stepping on the backs of everyone else inside a community space. Support does not work like that.

I first realized I was a MAP around 11/12 when my feelings for young boys aged 3-9 did not evolve or go away.That isn’t too uncommon. Most people begin experiencing their sexuality around those ages, so to say ‘minors can’t be MAPs’ or that they are somehow brainwashed into believing they are a MAP is pretty ridiculous. I think this anti mindset comes from folks fearing young people being easily influenced and being part of a community that unfortunately has had many ups and downs with it’s fair share of abusive people. But that isn’t the community itself’s fault, and a minor IDing as MAP is still not any less valid.

@alyssawitchcraft very much agree. I am also trans and otherkin and identified with that way before I fully realized my paraphillias but was very bullied and misunderstood for both those things as well. I’m glad my Mom was not that type of Mom haha and has since the beginning accepted me paraphillias and all.

So I came out to my partner’s mother about paraphillias who is a retired long time psychologist and behavior analyst and it was one of the best conversations I’ve had about the topics in a long time.It was really refreshing and empowering to discuss this with a colleague/fellow psych major and not be ridiculed and judged.

I know I have been pretty afk ~ I’ve realized that alot of the time being involved in the para communities is actually not great for my health. I get really OCD and paranoid about things and it sucks a lot of energy from me. I’m not leaving, I will always be a part of these spaces, but I’m just taking an indefinite leave. @Azraeil THIS 👏 100% this.When I first started finding otherkin and kink communities online and began to express and question my own identity and attractions I found it so disheartening that important crucial parts of my own self were demonized and shunned.I thought it was obvious that people who identified as/with animals and desired to be close to them, would obviously also have romantic/spiritual/sexual attractions to them? Of course this isn’t always true or necessary, but it is absolutely ridiculous to imply that people wouldn’t have these sorts of feelings.This was heartbreaking for me as a teenager, so I ended up finding zoo communities that unfortunately really fetishized my own attractions.Neither were healthy and truly what I needed as a struggling kid, but now as an adult I can see how these spaces continue to exclude and not acknowledge the fact people identify with such attractions (example in the otherkin convention banning zoophiles, which I had seen and yes agree it’s absolutely ridiculous to enforce. There goes MOST if not ALL of your community. And we are just talking about the ones who have enough strength and support to actively be out about said attractions. What about all the ones who are too terrified of the backlash to talk to their community about their feelings? How are we ever going to have a space where people actually feel welcomed and safe and allows them to explore their feelings in non harming ways, if all they continue to do is pick and choose who is allowed to exist inside of the perimeters and not? Doesn’t that just perpetuate more people hurting, lost, angry and lonely? Seems pretty backwards in the ideals these communities want to uphold.
