@grammargirl I think a person is a "Valley girl" but the aesthetic is "Valley Girl" but I also fully recognize using both will look odd.

@futurebird Definitely cooking and cleaning. My dad was a contractor and I was taught to do all the household repairs "in case there's no man around" with the heavy implication there should always be a man around. I've appreciated being able to handle all of my apartment repairs without calling maintenance into my house.I don't agree that any are spoiled behavior, I only get judgmental if someone thinks they, personally, are above the work or the workers.

@futurebird I don't dislike chocolate, but I absolutely do not understand the hype. There are dozens of sweets and desserts I'd eat/buy/serve before chocolate anything.

@futurebird I just saw a TikTok explaining Gen Alpha vocab to Gen Z, and I, an elder millennial, could swear everything Gen Z found baffling was straight from the 90s. 🔁

@futurebird I don't know if this is too many apps at the same time, but I would like my audiobooks, meditation apps, and smart lighting to just be a decorative bedroom orb. Like my childhood mother goose lamp.

@futurebird I've had it, and it's definitely different to having had too much coffee. It's like... getting a little loopy? instead of the anxiety and cold sweat too much coffee gives me.

@futurebirdI've had that thought about books and video games a lot. I currently have a library of hundreds each but I know it's getting closer to the day I'd have exactly zero without a steady income. It's so depressing.

I thought it was finally time to learn chess, but I got bored halfway through the description of the pawn again.

@futurebird I never think about the letters, but I can type words very quickly and mostly accurately.Typing something like a security code, I have to look for the letters and know the general area, but there's still some minor hunting and pecking. The QWERTY keyboard on the TV/console with a remote/controller may as well be a different alphabet entirely.

@futurebird It strikes me as that sort of Douglas Adams-style absurdist humor that I find funny but most people in my life seem to find irritating."The ships hung in the sky in much the same way that bricks don't."

I'm trying to get into the spirit of "remember when we used to post things just to post things" and share that I made this preserved lemon shortbread. It's fine. I'll keep working on it.This is my favorite tea cup, though.#tea #food #TeaTime #baking

@futurebird As someone who has absolutely never passed as extroverted, I get this in the form of "but you seem really confident" which I've taken to mean that they thought I was weird because I hate them, and I don't see how that is supposed to help me, either. I "understand" the impulse to minimize someone telling you they struggle with something, but I don't get the point to these responses at all.

@futurebird All of my elderly cats got much louder like that as they went on. I assume it's some combination of all the things already mentioned and maybe some minor joint pain?

@futurebird Two of my cats preferred this position and I could pretty much constantly feel them adjusting their weight to stay there. It seems like maybe that's part of the appeal? Human surfing?

@futurebird I wish I could find the video of a Ted-like talk I used a bunch in my Hotel and Restaurant Management course. It was a restaurant group owner talking about wanting employees to feel ownership of the business. He mentions putting on a cocktail contest every menu so various bartenders in the restaurant group got their drinks on the menu, and noticing a server taking pictures of the tables, asking about their photography, and having them do some shots for the website. It is baffling to me that most company owners and upper management wouldn't want their employees to feel invested in their jobs, with such simple ways to involve them.

@futurebird @MxVerda @benh I am glad Americans are finally getting over their disgust of kettles but I can't say I'm surprised to learn they still don't know how to use them. I make both coffee and tea every day but neither have ever been IN the kettle, wtf

I grew up in MAGA land (pre-MAGA) and have had to explain to the white liberals I spent the next 15 years around that the people back home literally seemed to think diversity was made up. That there was some sort of disconnect happening where they genuinely seemed to think people who weren't straight, white, and Christian were something being created and forced on them, the normal people, through media and public schooling or whatever. It took until 2016 to fully realize the liberals have literally exactly the same "goodness those sillies on the Internet would be bad if they were real people who voted, am I right?" inability to realize other types of people exist. Even with me standing in front of them going "no, that's a real thing my actual mom said, and she's one of the more progressive ones"They genuinely seem to believe MAGA is one blowhard uncle at an otherwise chill Thanksgiving, that you can just lecture with a Jon Stewart zinger and go home.

@futurebird For me, the Internet went from the only place I was comfortable in high school to just another social nightmare in the last 10 years. I have wondered what it's like for kids today. It doesn't seem like there's any niche place to express themselves without the threat of bullying at all.

@futurebird I've found each new milk craze a little weirder than the last. But mostly because none of them ever approach the level of protein in cow or soy milk so it just seems so... pointless? to me. But I've literally never had a glass of milk for the taste so I am not the target audience I guess. But yes the current levels of pistachio marketing are so strange to me.
