To all the people crying about "Why shouldn't YouTube be allowed to make money from ads!"If I print a newspaper entirely funded through advertising revenue - and you pick up a free copy, do you think it is ok for me to break in to your house to make sure you are looking at the ads?Because that is what YouTube are doing when they deploy their spyware to detect #adblockers #privacy is a #fundamentalright - fight for it or lose it.

@feld @AlgorithmWolf sure I charge 400 euros per hour for legal research - send me your billing info and I will get right to it (on Wednesday when I get back from speaking at the EU Parliament about privacy law)

@HauntedOwlbear because this is ePrivacy Directive not GDPR you can choose (One Stop Shop doesn't apply) but I would recommend everyone file with DPC Ireland as that means we focus the complaints to one regulator which gives them more impact as the number of complaints increases as it eats into their budget (it costs money to manage a complaint). If we start spreading this out across different authorities it dilutes the impact.

Lot's of people asking me why I filed a complaint against #YouTube for their illegal deployment of #spyware to detect #adblockers instead of simply paying for YouTube Premium. The answer is simple - YouTube Premium has no ads but Google still use it to profile you for advertising on their other products.I refuse to pay for *any* service which doesn't respect my fundamental rights. And so should everyone else, because until they do, Alphabet will continue with their illegal #surveillance.

@simon LLMs by definition, are anthropomorphic - that is the entire point of them - to mimic human speech - it is literally their entire reason to exist.

Just want to point out that I wasn't interviewed for this article so the quotes are second hand at best and I have not mentioned #GDPR in relation to this matter.Article is jumping on the back of other articles I did interview for and then adding a bunch of crap I never said...https://innovationorigins.com/en/youtubes-ad-blocker-clash-a-legal-quandary-in-europe/#privacy #adblocking

It is important to note that if GDPR was the primary law here it would be much less helpful as YouTube would likely be able to argue using the Legitimate Interest legal basis. This is precisely why the EU Parliament have said there will not be a legitimate interest legal basis under the ePrivacy Regulation (and why there isn't under the ePrivacy Directive) because interference with our private sphere (what we do in our home or on our own devices) is a huge risk to fundamental rights.#privacy

Of course that doesn't mean their balancing test for LI would go in their favour (it wouldn't) but it would give them some wriggle room for argument - whereas there is zero argument available to them under ePrivacy as the only legal basis is consent.

I just filed a criminal complaint against Meta Platforms Ireland Ltd. under Section 2 and Section 5 of the Criminal Justice (Offences Relating to Information Systems) Act 2017 for:"illegally deploying surveillance technology to my computers for the purpose of monitoring my behaviour, as they had no reasonable excuse or lawful authority to do so."and"illegally intercepting transmission of data within an information system (my computing devices) for the purpose of monitoring my behaviour."

Does anyone know how to stop Wordpress automatically setting ETags for every single page? This is a big issue from a privacy compliance perspective and seems to now be the Wordpress default.

@EU_Commission now if only they would make it a requirement for all "low power" devices. For example I have a broadband router here which is very low power and could easily be powered by my USB-C pd hub but no it has some stupid power brick instead.

Why are airlines permitted to get away with this shit? Booked two bonus flights to SFO this summer using points and a voucher to get free Business Class tickets.Problem is you cannot use them for returns only one way so I have to book return flights - the price - 3300 Euros *each*However, there is currently a campaign which allows me to book 2 economy outgoing with 2 premium economy returns for a total of 2000 Euros (return for both people).(more)

@katzenberger @RainerMuehlhoff @HannahRuschemeier as opposed to a loaded weapon that can only be used by elites... I think I would prefer everyone to be on a level playing field otherwise we just remain underfoot.
