My experience with connecting old wifi interfaces to modern wifi networks vs the same thing but with Ethernet kinda tempers my enthusiasm for something like #fujiNet but it’s a lot more than just a network interface which makes it interesting.In general its way simpler to hook new into old over Ethernet. I’m still using ADT+ with a LanceGS 10T Ethernet card I bought for my Apple IIgs maybe twenty years ago now with no extra intermediary equipment between it and my gigabit network switch.How future proof is the wifi functionality on the fujinet?

@smallsco I just wish the FujiNet had an Ethernet option. When the wifi interface it has becomes obsoleted by changing wifi protocols, it just seems to me that anything you do to bridge it to a modern network is going to involve maintaining a weak point in your home network security.The FujiNet like all modern day retro computer projects is a niche product and you can’t be sure what the future will hold for it as far as upgrades go.The IIgs was just an example of how much more frictionless it is to connect older Ethernet interfaces to newer Ethernet networks vs connecting older Wi-Fi interfaces to newer wifi network equipment.Devices that only connect via wifi just have way more issues with forced obsolescence because of security concerns inherent with wireless networking.

@arstechnica I only had access to stick shift cars when I was a teenager. I learned that I’d rather put up with being stuck at home and spend all day on the internet than bother learning how to get the Honda Accord out of first gear.
