In this shitshow of a society, being a prude is a form of self-defense.

@MandyJane right? He does mention Laila Mickelwait but she’s the one who’s been out there and getting hate for it and never backs down. This is low risk, high reward for him and the NYT gets to bask in being called brave,& shit even though they love to run stories about onlyfans and sex work is work blah blah.

So is it just me or does “sex work is work” and all this “remove the shame from sex work!” sentiment a way of removing the whole idea of sexual harassment from our consciousness so that #MeToo further fades into the mists of time and employers can be relieved of the burden of dealing with sexual harrassment thingies? Because if we’re all SexPosiAllTheTime, then when Jeffrey Toobin wanks on a work call, you’re the one with the problem, he’s being normal ‘n’ natural; if your coworker “accidentally” screenshares some porn during a meeting, you’re supposed to laugh it off. He’s just looking at some workers working! What do you have against workers? It’s probably just me.

@starsstorm pregnant/postpartum/breastfeeding mothers are already ignored and underserved as it is. I thought I had it bad when my kids were babies but this shit is BEYOND. I am so sorry that you have to deal with this bullshit.

I shit you not, I searched some stuff about menopause (cold flashes in case you spinsters have insight….for a friend) and the search results yielded “PEOPLE WHO EXPERIENCE MENOPAUSE”. First, they came for your menstrual cups, then they came for your malfunctioning hypothalamus. When will this bullshit end.

@sansa Gay men are men and hate women as much as straight dudes do. In like 1990 I might agree with drag as being a refuge/some sign of being part of a persecuted subculture but not in 2020. The richest men in the world are out gay men (Tim Cook, Peter Theil and their brethren in tech, design, advertising, financial services, media, entertainment, journalism) and drag now is much more scolding and almost instructional to women than it was 20-30yrs ago, though even then it used femininity to uplift men at the expense of women.

@sansa Nope, not gonna stand for gay men on spinster. Of course homosexuality isn’t universally accepted, but that’s on men and related to misogyny. My point stands that gay men are men first and foremost and protect and advance their own and will do so at the expense of women every time. I grew up/came of age in that world (NYC in the 90s) when gay men and straight women felt like we had common cause, somewhat, against the larger culture that hated women and men that were seen as woman-like. It is astounding how much the culture has turned around for gay men and yet women are still shit on and by and large gay men could not possibly care less.

@LavendarMenace this is true with miscarriages too— male embryos are less hardy than females and are the majority of miscarriages (when genetic material is tested)

@hanafiyyah This. She will call you out for your mediocre work and half-assed shortcuts every time because she's dedicated her time to details and knows how much they matter, the very details that the dudes in these groups gloss over. She also gets talked over and silenced in other aspects of her life so this is where she shines! And even this moment in the spotlight gets taken away by these interloper dudes.

@Melkora Men will unite across class, religion, political party and race lines to kick women down. While by and large, women will choose political party, class, race, religion, almost anything over supporting other women. That's because even women believe the hype about other women and want to be set apart from the herd.I hope that one day I will be proved wrong.

I just finished JKR's Troubled Blood. There was some drama about it being transphobic. Well, no, but it is terven/2nd wave to the core, so I could see TRAs hating it on those grounds if they ever read it.It portrays male violence and its aftermath, it criticizes femininity, lays out the casual contempt that men have for women; it describes why women go along to get along w/ sexual harassment at work and how they know they won't be believed; how we're all socialized to underestimate and undermine women--both when they do heroic and criminal shit-- all while keeping up a good pace and tons of characters, some parts that had me laughing, and the plot twists you'd expect in crime dramas without it being all "girl on a slab as a starting point".It's not usually my genre but read it. It had like 50 holds at my library before it got to me.

@Spaghetti_Tree I'm fine with unpopular opinions. Here's mine. I'm a mother and went through miscarriage and preeclampsia and a bunch of other shit on there. I'm not encouraging motherhood, but I also hate how mothers are like the ultimate "cis": the ones that since they "chose" to endure this stuff that they also deserve to be shat upon by all segments of society, not just men but other women (including other mothers) and children. Don't have children. Don't lionize motherhood, but don't contribute to the dismissal and contempt that targets mothers, either.I learned a word on Ovarit today. The "Karen" epithet in South Korea translates to "Mom Vermin" -- that's more honest than "Karen" at least. It's how people feel about mothers.

@juneseed I'm gonna confess here my sister. I waxed my stuff. Including painful electrolysis of my upper lip which rivals childbirth in pain. It's the worst kind of money wasting: painful, expensive and unnecessary. AND the electolysis didn't work!I've stopped with most of it. I'm not defending it and I am perpetuating the problem, but if my 'stache stands between me and a job, I will sacrifice the stache.Between going gray and body hair, I am currently engaged in the gray hair struggle. Both, though completely natural, are seen as aggressively non-conforming because we can never accept ourselves as-is. That is an aggressive act.
