A little reminder of the crazy story of #reiserfs (and the murderer who developed it) as it reaches its end of life in the #Linux kernel."The Deprecated Bloodstained Code in the Linux Kernel" https://lowendbox.com/blog/the-deprecated-bloodstained-code-in-the-linux-kernel/

People from Kentucky: When you are visiting the Southwest, Mexico is nearby (geography!), and sometimes the road signs will have Mexican city names on them. Rarely does this mean your Uber driver is kidnapping you to ransom you off in Mexico. This is not a 5-star passenger!!"Woman fatally shot an Uber driver in Texas. Police say she wrongly thought she was being kidnapped"https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2023/06/25/uber-driver-mexico-kidnapping-arrest-phoebe-copas/70355242007/

I like to imagine that every time a new episode of a TV series is recorded, everyone on set has to listen to the whole theme song, as if they were watching the episode live. I like to think the actors know the theme by heart, but in reality, maybe they have never heard it. 🤯

Just a reminder that Nobel-prize winning PCR (1983), used in basically any genetic tech today, was only possible because of an extremophile bacterium discovered in 1964 in Yellowstone funded by a small ~$80k NSF grant with no obvious application at the time. The value of basic #science cannot be predicted and often is realized decades after it's done. How a discovery in Yellowstone National Park led to the development of PCR - Richmond Scientifichttps://www.richmondscientific.com/how-a-discovery-in-yellowstone-national-park-led-to-the-renowned-technique-of-dna-amplification-pcr
