@jstatepost Because you're not booting from this disk, you won't need a EFI partition at the beginning. As far as format - I'd say that depends on what you need it to do. I personally feel ZFS w/o at least setting up a mirror doesn't make much sense. EXT4 would probably work fine.

@deepthaw differences tend to follow a few lines:- package manager- update policies (LTS, rolling release, software versions, etc)- default desktopThe trick becomes finding the distro that balances these things best for you. If you're happy with the Debian release cycle (for example) and don't mind having outdated packages then cool.Personally, I'm finding I like the idea of Debian as a base with flatpak for most of my userspace apps.

@nick I'm not even close to a recent convert ... I've been full time Linux for like 15 years now. Yes I game on Linux - it's not hard anymore. As far as picking a distro I'd say it depends on how familiar you are already and if you have desktop environment preferences.

@matthew my thought was that perhaps Nginx would have a better chance of responding when the other processes are being hogs. I have no experience w/ optipng so I don't have any advice there.

So ... I've been "away" for most of 2025. Life's been pretty busy. I've finally setup my own private instance that I've wanted and will be migrating soon.
