@DeborahLeagueFineArt Sunflowers are one of my fave flowers, and I love the texture of your picture! Looks like a collage.

I seem to have gone a bit wild on tomatoes this year*. I've got a beefsteak and a gross lisse as well as a bunch of currant/cherry size and they're already starting to ripen. So good, and so far none have made it inside (I ate them while watering the garden).According to both the Elders I met the other day and the Bureau of Meteorology, it's going to be a long hot dry summer, so with some careful watering, I am looking forward to a lot more tomato snacking! *hahaha just kidding, we all know that's not a thing#gardening #tomatoes #GrowYourOwn

Our local outdoors organisation is partnering with some local First Nations Elders, and they're meeting with us in different places and talking to us about the area, the bush food in the area, some of the history. Today I took Kid1 along and we learnt a bit more about a native fruit, the quandong. We tried the fruit and the nut inside (which we smashed open using the less traditional method: a tyre iron). It took me back to my childhood -- these grow around the place where I grew up too. Later, one of the Aunties joined us on part of the walk. Such a joy and privilege to chat with her and be in this amazing, beautiful bush. #hiking #bloomscrolling #nature #ThingsILove #WesternAustralia #MenangCountry #TraditionalKnowledge #bush #mosstodon #LichenSubscribe

@aral The loss is just unfathomable. And that it's happening to so many other families... what brutal tragedy

Today Kid2's boyfriend messaged me to ask me about making bechamel and I asked if it would be OK to call (Kid2 was at work and he was making pasta bake for them both to have for tea tonight). We chatted about bechamel and what to do if it caught on the bottom, and then after we hung up, he texted a few more questions and got on with the cooking. I love that it's not just my kids but also their friends who message and call to ask cooking questions. I recently talked to a friend about my realisation that maybe I chose to have several kids because I wanted them to have the closeness I missed out on. I look at how they're getting older and I think, maybe it's working, but also, meanwhile, I have all these connections with community in a way I didn't have, growing up. And that was unexpected, but it's so welcome. #food #cooking #parenting #ThingsILove #BestThings

FRIENDS! I PASSED MY PHD!! Not only that, but the examiners both liked the story and the exegesis, and some of their comments.... they're so positive and they both think this is a worthwhile and important contribution to scholarship and steampunk and I am both giddy and weepy. Now to do the changes and edits and then I'm ready to graduate! Woohoo! #phd #university #writing

In the interests of distracting us from all the awful, I would love your input on this item. It's a contraption/stand usually made from wire and metal tubes that folds out for you to dry your clothes on. Sometimes they're made of wood (my parents have a wooden one still). Familiar, right? Right. So what do you call it? We always called it a clothes horse but my mum (from Cheshire originally) called it a clothes maiden.

@randahl So sorry to hear this, how upsetting for you (and others). An important reminder to think critically, always, especially when there's something weird
