@stux it depends on what “digital voting” means to you…If you think about voting on your phone, that will probably never happen: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LrHaXyv8eO0But if it’s something related to an electronic ballot box (like we’ve been doing in Brazil for decades) then it should definitely be implemented!

@stux yeah, we also have “accounts” in the form of “gov.br” logins for every citizen around here but I don’t think it would ever work for an election…There’s already insurance and other government benefits stealing going in that platform due to account hijacking (not everyone enables 2FA), that would be even more pronounced if accounts could be hacked for political advantage. There’s also the main point cited in the video I referenced before: you cannot make sure that everyone’s device has not had it’s integrity compromised (which would compromise the whole thing), that people won’t sell their votes by voting in front of someone else etc etc…It’s WAY harder to solve it that way and it will always be less secure and reliable. Resources should be invested in things that are proven to work…

@BrodieOnLinux I tough about recommending someone PopOS for replacing the OEM shipped Dell Ubuntu 20.04 LTS that came with the laptop they bought about two weeks ago but changed my mind due to it being so outdated. The system broke itself on the first update and wouldn't boot at all with the newer kernel because of hardware incompatibilities. Those could only be fixed by actually reinstalling the OS using 24.10, the only release of Ubuntu that has a compatible kernel for a machine that ships with an LTS release. NVIDIA drivers (the laptop had an RTX 3050) and GNOME have improved A LOT since then and his setup required using multiple monitors under Wayland, so... I'd say we're in need of a new LTS release including all of those improvements and fixes!
